Happy Day!

Post by KevR »

Because finally, ten years after I bought it, 18 months after I installed it and three months after I wired it up, my two-post lift in the garage is working!

It goes up!
It goes down!
It takes a car with it on its travels!

So far only tried it with the 2CV van, which fits nicely in the hole in the garage ceiling and goes up as far as the lift will go.
Time will tell if the BX fits as neatly, or whether the arms go low enough for the MX-5. Sadly I think I'll only be able to lift the H van a couple of feet, but even that's better than using jacks.

Was the hole in the garage ceiling present before you attempted to put the lift up as far as it will go?

I'm extremely jealous by the way!

Haha!
Actually, when I started there was no ceiling. No roof or floor for that matter, just three stone walls. Did the roof, then worked out where the lift had to go to get the top half of a 2CV van up in between two large roof beams and cast the floor with the workings of the lift embedded in it. That was years ago. Finally got the columns installed 18 months ago, but still had no 3-phase power. Got that sorted around xmas, then discovered that the slave post was knackered... the safety nuts had worn out and then broken up.  It's taken me two months to track down the right parts and get them fitted, which involved re-shaping the damaged thread on the slave post (all seven feet of it or thereabouts) with a hand file so the new nuts would actually turn on the thread. How we laughed.
Still, it works now.
