Boot open warning light

Post by mat_fenwick »

Not exactly a burning issue, but in the absence of any other problems (that's cursed it!) I'd like to get my boot open warning light working. All the wiring is present into the boot lid (brown 2 way connector) and if I short the two wires together the symbol lights up on the display.

Problem is there is no switch on the latch mechanism, and no evidence of where one might fit. Has anybody else got one that works, and if so do you know what it looks like? Is is it a case that the wiring was fitted but not the switch? (I believe that no BXs had an operational seat belt warning lamp, at least not over here so it could be a similar situation here).

Are you sure the estates had one?

No, hence the question really....

Shouldn't be a massive amount of work to rig something up though if nothing exists.

Don't take this as gospel but I have a feeling the tailgate switch on the estates is built inside the actual lock and has a two wire connection on it. Gibbo.

/\ yep, it's a micro switch in the lock itself. Had you said a month or 2 back I had a complete tail gate with suitable lock. Now, erm, I dont..

You're more than welcome to cannibalize the TZD break next time you're out here guv'. The more you take, the less I have to shift once I've stripped it for bits that'll fit the Athena!

Well, it's been like that since at least 2004, so no desperate rush I suppose! There is definitely no switch anywhere near any part of the lock mechanism, so it looks like it's been replaced with a standard one at some point. Probably by the same person who lost 50% of the screws holding the trim on, and replaced them with a mismatch of different headed screws.

Thanks Bob, I will take you up on that offer :) I'll keep an eye out for a Bosch pump and injectors I can bring over for you!

Excellent! Thanks Gibbo. Similar to what I expected, but as it is removable from the mechanism I wonder why they didn't swap it over?
