FOR SALE: BX 16TXS auto with 42k

Post by Ian_Fearn »

For sale is my partners lovely BX automatic with a genuine 42k from new. Unfortunately she has become ill and cannot drive hence its for sale.

The car has a full history as follows:

The car was registered to Dial Contracts on the 13th April 1992 from Lex Citroen in Cardiff.

The car then moved from Cardiff to Luton where it was then serviced by Slip End Garages (Citroen Dealer) as follows:

1st July 1992 at 4632 miles
12th November 1992 at 12112 miles
31st March 1993 at 17081 miles

The car was then sold by Avalon Motor Company (Citroen Dealer) in Taunton, Somerset and bought by a lady and was then serviced by Avalon as follows:

22nd July 1993 at 19072 miles
18th January 1994 at 19811 miles
7th July 1994 at 20348 miles

Then it had a Citroen Specialist service (Mike Chedzov Motors) on the 6th April 1995 at 21112 miles.

It then went back to Avalon on the 22nd January 1996 at 21665 miles. I have the worksheet for this service so know it had a gearbox oil change at this service.

I understand that the lady owner then gave up driving and the car sat under her car port until 2007 when it was bought it and recommissioned.

It was then serviced at a Volkswagen Main Dealer and had a cambelt and tensioner (I stress it had the tensioner too).

We then bought the car in 2007.

The following work has since been carried out by me:

I have a parts receipt for the following from Malcolm Lockwood on the 20/8/07 an oil change, thermostat, radiator fan switch, HT leads, distributor cap and rotor arm. I remember doing this just after we bought the car but I failed to make a note of the mileage so assume around 25,000 miles.

4 Michelin tyres on the 18th December 2007 (I didnt make a note of the mileage but estimate at 26,000. These are virtually unworn. My partner and I both drive fairly sedately!

Front brake discs and pads at 26,800 miles

Engine oil and filter changes (total 15w40 oil), Automatic gearbox fluid changed (Comma Dexron 2) at 28172 miles on the 21st February 2008

Front nearside inner and outer CV boot replaced, Front nearside anti-roll bar drop link replaced, auto gearbox oil replenished, front nearside strut return pipe replaced at 28920 miles on the 8th April 2008

I bought a replacement ignition module in May 2008 and fitted it although the original was still fully functioning and I think still in the boot as a spare just incase.

The petrol pump was replaced in May 2008 to try and cure a hesitation problem although this just turned out to be the vacuum advance pipe split!

In November 2008 I replaced the power steering hydraulic ram.

On the 12th February 2009 at 33,333 miles I changed the oil and filter along with the front and rear spheres.

In June 2009 I changed both front brake flexi's due to an MOT failure

At 39680 miles on the 6th February 2010 I changes the Oil and Filter, automatic gearbox oil (again, Comma Dexron 2), changed the spark plugs and the air filter.

In July 2010 I replaced the entire exhaust system from the manifold back with a Bosal system that fits correctly.

and finally.... I had a budget 'Event' tyre fitted as the spare to replace the cracked original spare.

The current mileage is 42,326 and its unlikely to go much higher than this.

MOT is until 12th July and the tax runs out at the end of June.

The car has a water temperature gauge fitted and working but the oil temp gauge that goes with it doesnt work at there is no provision on the sump for it. This isnt a dodgy dash cut and shut job but an original GTi gauge fitted correctly into the dash pod. The car has optional rear headrests and headlamp protectors, genuine Citroen front and rear mudflaps and interior mats. I guess you know the usual spec, electric front windows and sunroof and central locking, all working. It also has the optional front fog lamps but I think one is cracked. They worked last time I checked.

The paint is very good for its age, a few minor marks, nothing to get excited about but the spoiler has the typical bubbling round the lower edges. For me though, the main thing is that the normal BX grot spots are excellent.

The car has had 2 LHM changes during our ownership and also had a new Bosch battery about 2 years ago as well as a new starter motor.

Finally, it burns no oil or water.

PM me if interested

All the best to your partner Ian & good luck with the sale, nice looking car & mega low miles. If it doesn't sell on here, pop it onto one of those freebie classic car sites & i'm sure you'll get a sale & a decent price considering the mileage & condition.

I would have personally put it on for more than 5 days, but this one should be one of the first to make four figures. :)

The 5 day auction was supposed to be logical. Our insurance runs out at the end of next weekend and dont want the additional hassle. Got enough on my plate at the moment.

Surely such a nice car in that colour & condition will sell at that price, i'd be astonished if it doesn't, but e-bay is a strange place sometimes, lets hope not this time. All the best with the sale Ian.

If things had been different, I'd have paid the asking price tbh. Having bought a CX and a new telly recently, I couldn't raise the cash in time.

Ho hum, there'll be another, and it spurs me on to fix my BX, though it seems to not want to be fixed (more elsewhere)...

Hope the sale goes well. :)
