where can I get a rear height corrector

Post by BX Meteor »

probably been asked before, but where can I get a rear height corrector from for a BX 16 hatch-back ?

The leak is small, is it possible to repair it (I have not taken it off yet) ?

are the rear height correctors swappable from another model (Xantia, XM, etc) ?

b.t.w.... I've had BX's since 1988, this is my third which I've had since 2004, I've replaced supply piping before but never had a leaking height corrector

when I took out the spare wheel and stuck my head right in, it turns out that I don't need a rear one afterall, it was the short rubber pipe that connects the corrector to that plastic pipe that was split.

Re GSF though, I couldn't find one listed the other day, hence my posting ..... I didn't call them ....I might be wrong

Front and rears are the same part and you can overhaul it with a full new set of rubbers from somewhere like Pleiades.

Also, the BX correctors are the same as XM, CX and GS items. The Xantia ones are also the 'same' but come as an assembly of the corrector and the linkage/levers etc. The Xantia's corrector has a different internal damper to the earlier types (probably works just the same tho)

Hi Graeme

That's very useful information to know, but I am puzzled why the XM has 2 pairs of pipe connections, see this one on eBay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HEIGHT-CORRECTOR- ... 588b89e934

I don't have any drawings on the XM hydraulics, it seems odd that there are 2 pairs of pipes. Maybe it could be used on BX etc with two of the connections blanked off ?

From BX parts drawings, Height corrector part numbers are
96 054 058 AV
96 054 479 AR

I presume AV is front and AR is rear, but may not be, and anyway I think that there is no real reason for the front and rear to be different apart from minor cosmetic differences for mounting.

cheers,

it does'nt the two holes to the left in that picy are the mounting bolt holes

and in all the many years i have worked on citroens i have never found the need to replace a hight corector, they very seldom fail and when they do its usualy a build up of sludge inside, or the diaphram split usualy caused by someone levering against the dust cover edge whilst trying to manualy operate the H/C,

all of these faults can be repaired,

phew it's good to know that height correctors rarely fail, and that if they do it's only mountings that differ between them. So just the piping and struts that can be troublesome.

gsf put bugger all for BX's on there site. you actually have to ring them or go in as the BX is not there fastest seller anymore.
i deal with them for all my bits still. and they nearly always can get the parts.

Brian
i did not say the mounting differ as they are all the same even on the XANTIA,

i was saying in the link you posted for the ebay listing that the two holes which do not have plastic plugs in are the mounting points, and not two extra pipe ports,

Yep the front and rear ones are the same but the suspension connecting link is set up differently. You have to do a bit of work to convert a front to a rear as the front one faces forward when fitted and the rear one faces the other way.
