My view is, why on earth do you want to mess with the car like this? It's pretty quick as it is. Surely some appeal might be in getting the car performing as best it can, within the specifications of its original design? Is a sub- 8 sec 0-62 and 132+ mph top speed really going to feel inadequate in this day and age?

Messing with it, applying no proven, established plan, hoping it will develop a tad more power is pretty futile surely? Go on the 16v forum and get the best advice you can from those that have tried. Someone's fitting a supercharger to his, but by his own admission the car cannot handle it without some serious (and expensive) work - the engine is not going to last as long and neither will driving the car day-to-day will not be a comfortable experience.

Utterly pointless unless you think an extra 20 bhp will make you a hell of a lot happier. Why not buy a car that was faster to begin with? It'll cost you less too.

It depends on the program in the chip.

I have tried BBR Starchip and a Superchips.

The superchip raised the rev limit noticeably, the BBR I don't think changed it much. The Starchip was best overall.

If you are changing the engine mechanically though, you will not want an off the shelf chip, but one that has been optimised for your engine.

These motors are well tuned at the factory, so don't expect much more power unless you do some serious (read expensive) modding.

Personally, I find a properly running 16V engine has plenty enough power for the lightly constructed body.

The BX was originally designed for half the power of the 16V engine.

If yours feels under powered, perhaps something is not working quite right.

let us know how you get on,

Mike
