GTI 4x4 Wont start?

Post by richardd1652 »

Took some starting when i picked it up but once running seemed ok. Started this morning then started spluttering and died. Checked usual things, put more fuel in etc. Fires straight up on easystart so seems to be a fuel problem. Any ideas?

have you check the fuel pump relay/conections,

i think it lives behind one of the head lamps,

Is it standing on the level ? If its facing downhill then any water muck in the tank runs forward to the fuel pickup and will give your symptoms if there is some water in the tank.

The above is a longshot but the fuel system on motronic (1.3?) is pretty robust as long as it pumps up to its 3bar.

Failing that the ignition module under the top of the inlet manifold is known to play up and its worth checking all the electrical connections as well.

The cold start device may borked if its just cold starting thats your problem. Clamp the hose from it to prove this.

Could go on but you probably know the rest.

Its slightly nose up on the drive. If it were the ignition module wouldnt the plugs be wet with unburnt fuel? As there dry,Theres pressure to the injector bar,it did try and run sort of tonight, really reluctant to start and when it did on 3 pots then spluttered away to nothing.

Hi, probably a bit late but, I had problems with my 16v and after checking everything else I took the injector rail off of the injectors only to find 3 of them blocked up with dirt.

Thanks but its sorted now. Dodgy connection to mixture controller device. Bit of WD40 spray and she fired straight up.
