driveshaft
read the haynes manual and wondered if there is anything more i could know bout takeing out the right hand driveshaft and replacing both the gaiters,any tips gents would be handy

if you mean by right hand the O/S UK drivers side,
then once you have sepperated the outter end of the drive shaft from the hub,
now undo both the 11mm nuts holding the intermediate bearing into its houseing on the rear of the engine,
now with a container under the diff were the shaft enters it to collect the oil,
drift the collar that you can see at the gear box side of the intermediate bearing houseing,

Incidentally, you don't need to completely remove the two 11mm nuts on the intermediate bearing housing - just undo them enough so you can free off the studs and rotate them 90 degrees to clear the bearing.
Oh, and it's best to loosen the main driveshaft nut BEFORE you jack the car up!

i always remove the two 11mm nuts fully, then drift the shaft out taking the hochy stick bolts with it,
then re/fit the bolts so they are clear for the intermediate bearing to clear them and wind the nut back on finger tight,

The only reason I don't take the bolts out is laziness - access is restricted and it takes ages to wind the nuts all the way off, especially if you're lying on the floor doing it (different if it's up on a lift).
Also, I've never needed to drift the bearing out - it's always come out easily with a bit of a wiggle.
Haynes etc say you should always change the gearbox/driveshaft seals when you remove/replace the shaft, but I never have in the past, and have never noticed any problem. Having said that, I have just bought some new seals as they were cheap, so will probably change them next time.

i dont have a car lift/ramp and do all mine and my customers cars laying on the floor,
i personaly just find it easyer to remove the nuts completly, each to there own,

Absolutely - you do a lot more of these than I do, so you've had more incentive to develop the most efficient way of doing it, whereas I just go with what I know works. Probably takes me twice as long as you to do the job!citronut wrote:each to there own,
