air filter hose

Post by rodney68 »

on my 1.7 tgd n/a diesel it has a cardboard hose from front of car to air filter, this hose has foam lining the inside of it and the foam is falling off,my question is at work we have lots of clear wire reinforced hose in this diameter, can i replace this with some from work as old hose has holes in it from new and is a smaller internal diameter ,will it make a difference to how it runs?

If the foam is falling off, my advise would be to change the hose whether or not. I once came across a 17tgd where the foam had got sucked into the engine :(

It's pre filter so no it won't make any real difference to running and no the foam won't get sucked into your engine unless you take your air filter out. It's a cold air pick up pipe that's all, you could always drill holes in the stuff you have at work to make it the same.

Yes this is the same, it is suppose to make the air induction quieter.

and they spend fortunes trying to make them sound louder,

when all they need to do is remove the foam from there air pipes

I have used the plastic corrugated heater ducting from a Hillman Imp on my 17RD.
It fits spot on, no inner foam lining and it sounds luberly...
