19 TZI AIRCON

My good friend has a local A/C guy that specialises in weird and wonderful motors, he sucessfully regassed my mates DMC 12, Senator and Bentley Mulsanne so for a laugh I took the TZi over, he said he fancied a challenge!

Bearing in mind that the previous owner has the car for over 10 years and in that time it never worked. Anyway it still doesnt

, BUT when he tested it there was some refridgerant in the system and the compressor etc kicked in.

It seems the dryer has given up the ghost, and his supplier doesnt list one, but they DO list one for the 405 and the price is very good.

Can anyone confirm if its the same system please?

The photo online (yes he had a laptop) looks the same!

He is confident once the new one is fitted it will work.

This do you? I don't think it is the same on a 405 - I remember when I was looking for a donor car to take a system off I looked at a few 405s and things seemed surprisingly different!

(I've moved it to the Tech section for ease of people searching in the future).

That is the correct drier for a Mk2 factory fit aircon. It IS still available from Delphi off the shelf too. Failing that your man should know its not out of this world to open up the cylinder and replace the desiccant bag.

What refrigerant is in it? and what is he topping it up with?

I'm with Mat on the 405 thing, i've only seen one mind but it was a very different shape and location.

I seem to remember the AC on a Delorean being standard off the shelf Toyota parts, but i could be wrong.

Them DMC is a right mixed bag Vanny so your probably right. Ive bought one of those driers, for £12 there a bargain.

Regarding the refrigerant its the R12 equivilent which doesnt require new seals.

What is the R12 equivalent - is it R413? If so that's what it turns out I have in mine. And it didn't need a regass this morning - it's already 90-100% full. Saved me some dosh there.

I must say it belts out cold air quite well.

Yes, I just wanted to make sure it was working as best it could with two holidays in France this year coming up.

The specialist I use, stuck his thermometer in and it was working very well. He had a check around and told me it didn't need filling. So. Result

It's at least 2 years since its last regas.

New dryer is in! And IT doesnt work still

Apparently the valve thingy behind the glovebox is buggered, hes removed it and is confident he can get a new one before Wetherby!
