BX16 XU5 engine, free to collect (nr Gillingham, Dorset)

Post by mnde »

FREE engine to collect.

1580cc petrol, I believe it's the later B2C (XU52C) type with the twin barrel carburettor (88 onwards). It has been sitting in David Rutherford's garage in Dorset for three years or so, with oil down the bores. It came from a car that had roughly 90K miles on it, and was meant for the BX I had with a failed head gasket, but that ended up being scrapped because of welding required under the fuel tank area. I have no space for the engine at our house, and my current BX has a decent enough engine in it not to warrant the expense/effort of an engine swap...

It needs to be removed asap as David has come to the end of his tenancy and needs to clear everything by the middle of June.

It will plainly need a rebuild after standing all this time. I don't know what ancillaries it has (apart from no alternator), or whether it has a BE3 gearbox attached - but I can find out, if there's any interest - please PM me asap if you are interested. Otherwise I'll be having any useful bits and pieces off it and David will weigh in the rest. I will definitely be having the hydraulic pump if it's present and it's any good. TBH I doubt there'll be any takers as the 1.6 petrol is not the most popular model, but I thought I'd offer the engine on here in any case.

Kind regards,

Mark.

Yes i think so Campbell, although carbs look different etc but just wondered if it mattered mating a torque converter rather than standard flywheel.
Engine in the mk1 is shot blowing oil and water everywhere.

Hi Richard, I'm afraid I don't know the answer to this. Would anyone more technically knowledgeable care to answer? :)

Yes! so long as you use your own flywheel and torque convertor.

so, has anyone decided that they definitely want it? I absolutely must have everything cleared within the next few weeks, and anything left will be scrapped. If anyone wants my phone number to speak to me about collection, then please PM me, and we can discuss.

Address for collection is SP8 5 (again, remainder of postcode available on request)

I don't want to be weighing good stuff in, but needs must.

messerschmitt owner?? You still interested in this for the MK1? Please PM David to organise a time to collect.

David - sorry to be a pain but have you still got some stuff off the old Meteor: in particular bonnet and bumpers?

it's Richard for the MK1 - I think it may come in handy for the Mk2 16tgs auto I have coming on friday but no spare time to come collect unfortunately - or technically any space to hide it as the garage is staying empty so I can work on the Messerschmitt. Which means that I may be out.

I do have a friend in Gillingham so may ask if he can store for a few weeks?

OK let me know asap, because if you don't have it I may try and at least salvage the head and valvegear off it.

Regards,

Mark.

This engine, along with a few XUD engines in my garage, now has just 1 week before it is scrapped. It was going to go today, but my trailer of scrap was full, so there was no chance to shift it.

This time next week it will be gone.

If anyone wants it, or indeed any of the XUD engines I have, they need to be collected today, tomorrow, or next friday.
