I had to look up what a philistine was, let alone know the what/where/when\'s of that picture.

Wikipedia says: Philistinism is a derogatory term used to describe a particular attitude or set of values. A person called a Philistine (in the relevant sense) is said to despise or undervalue art, beauty, intellectual content, or spiritual values. Philistines are also said to be materialistic, to favor conventional social values unthinkingly, and to favor forms of art that have a cheap and easy appeal e.g Kitsch (no connection with me).

I possibly undervalue art, as I find it boring but I don\'t see this as a negative point.
I don\'t despise beauty, I\'d quite happily smash Jessica Biel\'s back doors in.
I don\'t despise intellectual content, I watched a program about the A303 and all the historic things surrounding it yesterday.
Spiritual values - well I\'m an atheist who believes in the wonders of science. I have no time for bed time stories those who forgave and they who came with gifts etc. Load of bollocks IMO.
Materialistic? Please, I drive a BX!
Favour conventional social values unthinkingly? See previous answer.
Favouring cheap art yada yada.....don\'t like art, nothing to favour. I\'ve got a picture of Goodwood motor circuit on my hallway wall....does that count?

In response to your thread, I can\'t remember now, wasn\'t it a picture of a car or something?

Didn't the Philistines come from what's Palestine these days? I'm sure they're mentioned in the Bible too...

I thought about joining the Foreign Legion at one stage, but then realised a Laurel & Hardy film probably wasn't a realistic representation.
