Seen that on ebay before, good value at £250 though and the Athenas very plush, that colour though shows every mark.
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....

Since I'm still potentially looking for one of my own in case Paul Jackson decides to keep his, how good real-life economy do the 1.6 essences get? And what's the engine longetivity like? The owner here seems to be confident that it's been well maintained. Petrol or diesel, I'd still be taking a big hit from my current 75mpg NA Fabia...

30-35 assuming its a manual, on a run high 30's i would guess. Keep your fabia & just have a BX as a weekend/show car on classic car insurance with a limited mileage policy :D

What he says, the 16 will do over 40mpg if driven sensibly, also quieter smoother and faster than a diesel (not a TD though) and reliable if properly maintained.

Could be a good buy!

I assume there are no official economy figures for the car, just then I could hazard a calculation at the "sensible driving premium", which is about 30% on the current SDI. Late 30s is a little shocking though - a friend of mine with a '90 Volvo 740 estate 2.0 has averaged 37 over a year, so the smaller Citrus could do a little better. Oh well, if I don't hear back from Paul I may bidsnipe this, it's only half an hour away :)

Looks lovely. On the mpg topic my 16 valve averaged over 40mpg going to the national and back, a round trip of close to 500mls. I imagine this would exceed that driven sensibily.

Its all down to how ya drive it, I own a 3.5litre V8 SD1 that has seen the right side of 30mpg with my feather light feet on the pedals regularly before, and less than 20 if driven with gusto!.

There was an official figures pamphlet in the owners handbook and also in the back of the brochure, the BX is light fairly and aerodynamic hence why even a valver will give respectable mpg if sensible speeds are maintained .

You wont be travelling at 70mph to get those figures, if you can stomach 56mph then yes, as i said, a sensible mileage for your average driver is as per my quote, no point in saying it'll do 40mpg when it plain wont, it'll avoid bitter disapointment. The best i had on my Gti was 36mpg, it was a boring drive

I'm with Mulley on this. Drive a car without worrying obsessively about economy and you will have a more enjoyable drive. I drive the TXD like I 'mean it', and despite the astonished response of the previous owner who, by driving at much tamer speeds, claimed he could get up to 10 mpg more ( ) I am happy with 45 mpg. No matter how I rag it.

I get around 30mpg on my 1.6 carb around town and around 38 - 45mpg on longer runs, 60mph gets around 45mpg possibly higher but 80 / 90 mph still not too bad at around 35 - 38mpg. The official figures are something like 31mpg urban, 41mpg at 75mph and 51mpg at 56mph, which would be quite impressive if you could keep it at that speed. The engine seems happiest at either 60ish or 80ish. 3000rpm or 4000rpm.

In general, i find it quite economical, but i used to have a TZD turbo which in comparison is definitely alot more eocnomical, 15 litres round town would last me ages. I'm getting the 'goo' - that's an irishism - for petrols now and i'm finding myself wondering how i'd like a manual Gti. The curiosity will never end
