Progress recently has been about as efficient as summertime border controls due to major house renovation. However, I found some time today to have a bit of a fiddle.

Took the BX for a run - I try and get it in use at least once a week - and discovered that the heater blower wasn't working. Some wire wiggling and connector cleaning seems to have revived it, albeit still only on the fastest setting. That'll do for now!

There's no denying that it feels sluggish though. I'm quite used to what an NA diesel should feel like (albeit the later 71bhp tune) and this feels choked. I started with the air filter, which was indeed pretty well choked with gunk. I've ordered a new one but washed the old one out as best I can for now. There's an unpleasant job!

It's my own fault for being such a half-job with the service I gave it. Next on the list is fuel filter. It does feel like laboured fuel delivery and I really should have changed this already.

Tesco's had some redex diesel injector cleaner on half price, I bought some, stuck it in the TZD, changed the air and it did seem to pull MUCH better.
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....

Might be an idea. It's definitely not pulling as well as it should. Diesel filter plan is scuppered though - I've got the wrong one.

I need a slimmer one than the one I have. Sod.

Fuel filter might be restricting the flow of fuel & cause the car to be sluggish. Has anyone messed around with the pump in order to get through the smoke test?

No idea. Certainly wasn't bodged through the test when I had it done. What makes me suspect the filter is that it surges as you'd expect, then the power seems to drop slightly. Feels like my ol' W123 Merc when I first started running it on veg. Changed a lot of fuel filters on that car!

Which type of flter system have you got on your car? Is it the rotodiesel type or the black cylinder with the 4 allen key bolts on top?

Rotodiesel. Reckon I've got the later plastic-housing type filters.

Has it got the mushroom pump style button on the top at the front of the fitler housing? If so, then its deffo a rotodiesel type, with some advice from a mate i managed to change paul296's one, never done that type before. I was surprised at how much crap was in the bottom of the housing :?

I'm sure I'll discover a right gunk-fest with mine! Hopefully replacing the filter will speed it up a bit...

Interestingly its not identical to the one in the piccy, the mushroom part is at a 45 degree angle rather than being horizontally on top of the housing. Wonder why?

The diaphram on the fuel fitler[mushroom thingy] is ok? Mine had gone on Sophe and made her run as rough as a dose of measles. She finally gave up. Replaced it and she is a different motor, goes like a train now.

Dunno. It's identical to the one fitted to my '91 TGD.

Andy - no idea if it's the diaphragm. How do you check it? The car runs fine, just feels short of power, hence suspecting fuel starvation. Given how gunked up the filter housing can get, and that the car didn't turn a wheel for three years, I'll start with just changing the filter I think.

To test if the primer pump is buggered and the diaphram is knackered is very easy but if it has a problem then the car wont move much further.
Just press the primer a few times, if it leaks then there is your answer. In pressing it you will make sure the diaphram is completely shot and lots of air will get into the system and she wont run proper.

Then lies the trouble of sorting a new or replacement one. Ime told one from a diesel Ford Escord will do the job so a visit to a scrappy may be neccessary.

Think it's ok then, as pushing it just makes it firmer (as you'd expect) and doesn't affect the running. Just went for a run in it because it's a nice day.
