Where does this piece belong?

When I got the head back from the specialist, they had removed a few bits like the injectors, glow plugs and intercooler mountings. They put everything in a box. Included was this piece:

I have no idea where it goes. Do I need it? I've already refit everything and didn't see where it would be needed...

Looks to me like a location dowel that fits half in the head and half in the block to ensure exact correct location and prevent any movement of the head!

off it goes again... camshaft sprocket, head bolts, engine lifting bracket, thermostat housing...
