Citroen DS ignition lock barrel

Post by Dennis Rosser »

Hi, not strictly BX I know but you've never let me down before, so, does anyone know how to remove the ignition lock barrel ? I have almost dismantled the dash but still can't get the barrel out. Thanks.

Hi Dennis,

you will need the key and a small screwdriver. If as you say you have exposed the ingnition barrel, you will see a small button a short way from the face of the lock. You will need to press this down with the screwdriver having inserted the key which you turn to the release position and the whole thing should just slide out.
If the lock tumblers have jammed and you cannot get a key in the lock then its a whole different ball game. Howerver not too difficult.

If this is the case, please disconect the battery before doing anything else. Get too heavy handed with a bigger screwdriver and you could short out the electrics in the lock and set car on fire.

When this happened to me, i drove a screwdriver with aid of a hammer up to and over the small button and the lock came out easily, took me about 3 or 4 minutes to do it. Just need to insert driver between lock and lock cylinder.

Hope this helps.

Andy thank you so very much, I thought there must be some little trick to releasing it but it's knowing the trick !!!! So easy when someone lets you in on the secret. And so easy to do,the tumblers were fine. once again thank you so very much, Dennis.
