New front ABS sensor for sale

Post by Richieg »

Hi Guys,
I have recently passed my Citroen BX 17 TZD estate on to a new owner.
One thing i did need was an ABS sensor (front) but thankfully it behaved enough to pass the MOT .
It took me months to find a new sensor and when i did i paid £215plus vat which was the citroen price.
I have put this on Ebay now but just thought i would mention in case anyone is after one to get their car back on the road.
item number is 260869622486

cheers

Here it is

Has anyone ever taken one of these things apart? It would be interesting to know what actually fails on them.

The normal failure point is in the cable or its connectors, I've not seen one fail other than that.

I have stripped one down to nothing and all it is is a tight wound copper wire coil, there's nothing you could do to repair it if it was damaged by removing with a big hammer, as was the one I stripped down. (My neighbours grandson is that type of mechanic. :D )

As for your price I think you have no hope, the highest price I've ever paid for one was £27 and I'd be very surprised if you get a bid.

99% of the time the wire fractures were it is constantly flexed on rears over the rear arm, and fronts as it goes around the front strut,

they can usualy be repaired if you can find the break,

here is price and part No. from citroen

Part Number Description Quantity Price excl. VAT Price incl. VAT Total incl. VAT Selection

I managed to salvage a pair of rears from some old rear arms.. little bit of plusgas and the right sized socket knocked them out with no damage.. you do have to take the back plates off and the hubs had been removed too, although I can't remember if that was 100% necessary.

The Pug 405 uses the same sensors, but with a different connector-
but the cable can be spliced.

I expect other PSA cars use the same or a similar part to.

Yes-I put a 405 sensor on my BX, it worked for years, until I broke the car for parts.

The Xantia sensors are only £24 new, they look similar, but not compared properly.

Hi guys,
I wished these sensors were only £35 ,it took ages to find this one and i had to pay a fortune for it and it took months and months to find one.
I have had a couple of messages suggesting the price i have put it on for is excessive, well when you look above at the list price from Citroen i think its quite fair,i was just glad i could get one at the time.
In addition to this in another message Ignition car parts have one for £27plus postage and vat, well i would like to add i ordered one from them and it is WRONG ,it is nothing like the front sensor on my car and i thought it was a picking error but they looked in to it and they cannot supply these sensors.
I am hoping it sells to someone who needs it as it is of no use to me now as the BX has gone,it could get a car back on the road . .
cheers

He had been told the sensor was faulty which i had confirmed by my mechanic,so he didn't buy the car under any illusions,he incidently viewed the car before end of auction and i was completely honest about the car and its faults.

I can confirm that Richie was honest about all this (I bought his BX) and I know the abs sensor is an issue. As I have access to good sparkies at work (instrumentation technicians) I'm going to get the cable/connectors checked and/or replaced as fault is intermittent and is triggered by turning steering. Fingers crossed it won't need a £200 sensor to fix...

Cheers,

James
