Problem with Blaupunkt Stereo

It powers up using the radio or CD player, however, no sound comes out of any of the speakers. It also has a graphic equaliser display, that doesn't show any sound output is being produced. Is the amp section dead within the unit? or could it be loose wiring?

I had thought of replacing the fuse at the back of the stereo, but thought that if that had blown, then the whole stereo unit would be dead rather than being on like i've said above.

Any advice gratefully received (yeah i know, get a replacement

)

I think the fuse yes, usually would stop the whole unit from powering at all... I like messing with older car stereos and usually problems are mechanical, ie. loose connections rather than electronic but usually these small car stereos have a load of surface mount components so an easy fix is unlikely.. If it's a high powered one and been warm over long periods the capacitors could have dried out which is a common problem with most older electronics... Not sure this would explain your problem but if they're not SMD it's pretty easy and cheap to desolder and replace these if you've got a good soldering iron / desolder kit..

Does it play CD's? The model name means nothing to me i'm afraid, i can't even remember what model mine is without having a look at it

it is the original fitment so cassette and radio. A brand new stereo can be had for £40 nowadays.

Unfortunately i don't do cassettes anymore (wifey only uses those small silver disc thingies), otherwise it would have been perfect. Cheers anyhow.

Years ago when I used to mess about with car radios, sometimes the output amplifer ICs would fail. That was easy to diagnose because the audio signal was present on the amplifier input but not the output.
That may be what is wrong with yours, but its hard to tell without making measurements.
Nowadays its only worth fixing them if you enjoy it, or it's your own and you really like that particular unit.

I would probably just buy another one-perhaps a second hand one that suits the car.

Or you could get a new DAB one- DAB is great in the car-far better than the limited station choice you get on FM.

You do need a proper DAB aerial though, or reception is crap.

All it needed was a new cable for less than a tenner... I like these Kenwood decks not too showy and new for a BX and with a nice cassette deck but RDS and CD for those more modern things...[/url]

I have a new expensive double din head unit in my L300 that no longer has output on the left front and rear speaker outputs since i forgot to disconect the battery whilst mig welding the exhaust. I wired the two front speakers to front right and front left but obviously it now sounds poo! is this likely to be something simple to fix or should I just bin it and start again?
