Man sized front bumper clips on 1993 TZD

Post by Charles Vacy-Ash »

How on earth do you undo the huge clips that hold the front bumber on to the bodywork in front of the radiator? Haynes the Brains does not mention them. Before I destroy one with a dremel just to find out how it works, is there a simple procedure I should know about, please?

Hi Charles

Not done that job myself, but I'm sure someone will be along with an answer. Given that you live not far from Birmingham, I presume you've tried a bigger hammer?

From memory I thought you removed the grill piece then take some screws out before sliding the bumper forward releasing the big side brackets to the front wings out of the elongated square holes?

There's three screws under the grille thing in the centre, then there's another three under the bumper, then there's two spring clip thingies in the bumper grille itself. Then it should pull forward out of the "keyhole" type slots on the wings.
Refitting is almost a reverse procedure but with a bit more pushing and shoving going on. :D

Man sized front bumper clips on 1993 TZD

Post by Charles Vacy-Ash »

Morning helpful friends,

I followed your advice on the basis that the parts of the bumper that are clipped must be slotted, not drilled as I thought. Eschewing the Birmingham approach suggested by Ian, I trusting the rest of you implicitly, and applied a man sized tug. Away it came. Its just held by friction - there is no mechanical connection made by these clips. Thank you all.
