Daughter's first car
Hi My Daughter is learning to drive and I'd love to get her her first Citroen (keep it in the family ) and ideally it would be a Saxo, Xsara, ZX, or at a push an AX 5-door. If anyone's got one knocking about (or knows of one) that just needs a few bits doing to get it up to scratch and don't want much money, let me know (times is hard - not least because of the cost of lessons, tests and what the insurance will be!).
Being realistic though, a Clio/Fiesta/Ka/Punto/etc would do if cheap enough

Re: Daughter's first car
Heres a 70k AX SALSA with 12 months MOT and some TAX, location Milton Keynes !Philip Chidlow wrote:Hi My Daughter is learning to drive and I'd love to get her her first Citroën (keep it in the family ) and ideally it would be a Saxo, Xsara, ZX, or at a push an AX 5-door. Also a 'P' reg. face-lift AX DIMENSION with limited info, looks nicer and colour too but @ Gosport, but still not a million miles away from you (Unfortunately both 3 doors) !
Also cheap scruffy PUNTO with no Tax/MOT or even a DIESEL version, but the insurance may be too expensive being a 1.9 !
But how about a Toyota #1 YARIS & #2 YARIS which maybe not on you list due to the higher prices they normally command also a good older model Polo could be a good buy if you could get hold of a early/rust free model (Tim maybe able to to source one of those) ?
Or if you want to TREAT her to this nice BLACK - 2CV, I'm sure she'll say YES to it !

Thanks for the input chaps.
Mat, how much for the 106? And just how tatty is it?
Richard: thanks for the links. I think we are going to have to be talking £0-£300 to be honest - but the 2CV is awesome
There's this sort of thing: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330657479239

Hi Phil, Well it looks like your sorted if your the bidder on the Clio I hope you secure it for 99p with no reserve and ALL that tax on it too !Philip Chidlow wrote:..............I think we are going to have to be talking £0-£300 to be honest

The ZX has tax on it until July next year so the seller may have factored that into the price as it has a Reserve on it !E-Bay Seller wrote: ........ It has Tax until the end of September next year and MOT until April.
..................... 3 Day auction with no reserve, the car has to go on Friday.
P.S. I hope your not thinking of doing some Xmas shopping @ ASDA if you buy a ZX ?

Ha! Serves them right
I think my daughter'd rather walk than have an AX, but a ZX might be OK. In all honesty she'd much rather have a 106/Ka/Clio.
If it was entirely up to me (and I had the cash now) I'd be looking at this for her: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200687610317

I would say under £300! But would have to check with Lana as it's her car, and until she finds another she kind of needs it!Philip Chidlow wrote:Mat, how much for the 106? And just how tatty is it?
If you look at the roof and bonnet you can see the lacquer is blotchy, but otherwise there's no problems. Mechanically it's faultless, just not great to look at which may be an issue with a teenager!

Interested, but as you say teens can be picky lol.
I'm more interested in it being mechanically and structurally sound than having some peeling lacquer TBH.
If Lana comes to sell it soon, I might be up for it. But I'd need to factor in collection. However, it's possible I could get it picked up and trailered down South.
In fact Mat, if you were able to get it to the M56 or M6 it really could happen immediately after Xmas/New Year...

Insurance will be 4 to 6k really...
My lads insurance @ 17 yo, was 1100 quid through quinn while he was learning to drive, when he passed it was congratulations that will be another 3032 quid...
I got him on pass plus and that knocked another 10 percent off so he was insured for 3600 in the end... his renewal this year was 2500 though admiral... but you have to add your renewal on a mutli car policy too.
He drives a Rover 25 1.6, it is cheaper to insure than a 1.0 Saxo etc
paid 1500 for one old man, service history, 40k mile car

check the insurance first but get something less '17-20 year old driver's car'. Stay clear of the popular choices - corsa, ka, 106, etc as the insurance will be prohibitive - the GSA would have been a better bet for cheap insurance as the statistical chances are that few 17 year olds have crashed one so the premium will be lower. Lots crash Corsas and Kas hence why the insurance is so high.CGATCX25GTITURBO wrote:

As above you will find the little boy racer cars that you think will be cheap on insurance are the exact opposite Saxo's 106's are the worst as AX's used to be. I bought my eldest son a little Saxo and in the end I gave hime my Mercedes C220 diesel auto, that unberlievably was cheaper to insure than the Saxo Your daughter does at the moment have the advantage of being female which currently makes premiums much cheaper but Insurance companies are being forced to stop this practise. My son thought he had found a really cheap online quote at £2500 , when he checked the details he realised he had put in he was female, when he changed it to male the uote went to nearly £5000

Good counsel. I will check insurance prices before committing. I would have thought an old 1.4 ZX might not be tooooo bad?
I like the Rover 25. Might check that out too.
Is a Clio going to be toxic insurance-wise I wonder?
How about Seat Ibiza? Or a.....

I wonder what a 1.6 BX would cost to insure??
