Ignition Lock Set on the international bay

Keys look like Pug ones with funny heads on, but these are really hard to come by these days. I'm almost tempted to buy it as a spare!

i've come across two types of ignition key on the bx - a rectangle profile 'flat' key and a '+' shaped profile which is a much sturdier key. Are they both equally vunerable to screwing up the ignition lock? Steve

There are three types :-

Early Valeo design flat key, which all BX's originally had, aswell as C15, early AX and early ZX. These have a habit of jamming in locks when the tumblers wear out in the barrel. You won't find anything except used sets with this design.

Later '+' section key, as used on Xantias and XMs on all models up to around 2002. This is also a Valeo design, though much more durable and secure. Valeo superceeded all replacement lock sets to this type, so if you buy a Valeo BX lock set, this is the type you'll get.

Peugeot type key, is a short, flat bladed key with a small square hole near the tip. Used in all manner of models, including 106, 205, 306, 405 etc. Some later AX and C15 models also had this key. They also have a habit of jamming, though usually in the door locks rather than the ignition.
Because Citroen and Peugeot share many parts, many aftermarket parts manufacturers decided to stick with one or the other in terms of design. This is why sometimes you see BX keys like this and 205 keys like that, if you get the picture?

The set on eBay here is a Peugeot type blade with a generic plastic head on it. The original Valeo one is the kit with the '+' section keys, which in fairness do seem more durable. I've never known one to fail personally.
