EARLY TZD TURBO

Post by Tim Leech »

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1991-CITROEN- ... 4ab3cf89be

Low miles, P1 16v alloys, and no reserve?

Could be a good buy for someone, doubtful it will have ABS at that age too?

Needs a bit of a fettle, but looks good - nice low mileage for a diesel as well.

(note to self; Paul, don't even THINK about it!)

I'm tempted if it can be got for the right price and I can find someone to trailer it - straight to where it'll need to be repaired

Not far from me either.

Certainly worth a punt. 350 - 450 might be about right in it's current condition? Probably a few bob to get it sorted but a low miles, up together TZD (with alloys) is definitely worth thinking about (but not by me obviously! :D )

''needs a new radiator'' ? is that because it is leaking or because the engine is over heating.

You can drive a car to the MOT station/place of repair as long as its booked in, and its insured and its going straight there only.

Yeah, I'm happy to spend a few hundred quid if I can get it for around the 400-very-ish mark. I wondered about the radiator as well, I'm not sure I'm up for a third head gasket in my life of car ownership

Not sure if it's driveable with rad leaking though Tim? - unclear from ad, should contact 'em and ask.

IF it's just a leak, then so long as the coolant level remains OK then it should be safe - you can (temporarily) run without the expansion bottle cap to minimise pressure. But do all the usual HG checks (oil/water mixing, make sure no bubbles or build up of pressure after a cold start).
Also bear in mind no temperature gauge, and new radiators aren't cheap - I've seen them for around £150 but don't know if that's good, bad or average.

this is the reply I got

they used to run hotter at speed , but could sit in a summers day traffic jam for hours and never overheat, but that's an airflow issue built in by design !!

but on ebay he has put

Rad defo shot , it has corroded at the bottom of the core, the vehicle was stopped and towed home before any damage was knowingly done, all 5 spheres were replaced before the rad went , the car had £400 spent on it on the spheres and other bits and pieces, if my dad had the money to put a new radiator in if and not been given a seat Toledo for nothing ,it wouldn't be for sale as he'd still be enjoying driving it , he hates the Toledo with a passion !!!

Just in from doing the head gasket for a bloke who thought it was okay to drive a vehicle with a leaky radiator, thing is he bought a new rad three weeks later anyway, it cost £66 delivered, and took an hour to fit, the head gasket job is probably going to come to about £300 by the time its done, trailer it if you win it or take a rad with you when you collect, my TZD had two seized cooling fans , must have been like that for years, I have a TZD radiator in the garage that is crusty but probably usable as a temporary measure.
