Yellow headlights

Post by Willy »

I anticipate this will have been asked before, so I hope somebody has a definitive answer :D

Question 1. Are they pass-an-MOT legal in headlamps? If "yes" continue to question two, if "no", then turn to page 463, like in the "choose your own scare" Goosebumps books

Question 2. Has anybody fitted them successfully and found a reputable ebay source? These I found ages ago naively thinking "made in Germany" says everything, I ask as I saw someone post a while ago saying the yellow laminate simply melted off theirs.

Hi bud,

yes they are a pass, all 3 of my BXs have them. All you will get on the MOT is a comment that they are yellow, nothing more.

Just have to trawl feebay to get the right sort. Mine are fine.

I've got yellow bulb caps but they're not currently fitted as they absolutely destroy the headlamp output in my experience. They look absolutely superb, but that's not much comfort when it's pitch black and you can't see.

The benefit is that road signs and cats eyes turn yellow, and that's quite cool!

I bought a dozen yellow h4 bulbs off eBay.de. These are yellow bulbs not normal bulbs with the coloured caps. Plenty for sale with a bit of looking. Oddly enough none on eBay.fr.

It was obligatoire back in the eighties in France, very evocative, they must have changed the requirement since as I have not seen many yellow headlamps on recent visits, they look very continental but dont really help light output, I settled for yellow lensed foglamps stolen from Renault 19s they fit nicely into TZD/GTI bumpers.

I have yellow H4 bulbs in mine, but haven't actually seen them for sale here in France for years. I like them - far easier on the eyes than bright white lights, and the BX doesn't go fast enough to need high power headlights anyway!

I imagine that the garages now lying abandoned after the introduction of the autoroute's, will be a treasure trove of items like yellow bulbs and old Citroen spares.

You don't have to be going fast to need decent lights, i've got osram nightbreakers fitted & they are excellent. They are sooo good i've been flashed a couple of times  They soon realised i wasn't on full beam when i burned their retinas out 8)

I also fitted those 10w sidelight bulbs as well, & they are certainly a lot better than the 5w one's that emitted a very yellow glow, its a lot brighter & less yellowy...

If only osram did yellow one's in the nightbreaker style 8)

Nee naw nee naw it's the forum police!

Dazzly headlights do piss me off, mainly as I believe people use them to intimidate other drivers... need to get one of those Mercedes auto-dimming rear view mirrors.

With you on that. How is it a laughing matter that your headlamps are dazzling other motorists? And then you dazzle them even more. Nice work.

I do agree with the sentiment about needing bright lights even going slowly. Yellows are ok, but I just found them unusable on twisty country roads.

I drive on unlit country roads quite a lot, and have never had a problem with yellow bulbs. I've been using them fpor about 4 years now, and I wouldn't go back...

Further, they are great in fog as I've just tonight experienced....

Charlotte's after some for Tim's BX, assuming he hasn't put them on yet haha.
So I'll be looking for some very soon, because lets be honest, they look awesome.

They wouldn't do. They're entirely legal!
