What are my chances?

Post by Philip Chidlow »

Or rather, what would be the chance of Liz (my long-suffering wife) being able to find a nice BX auto petrol? I know Tim and Vince have lovely examples, and I know they do pop up now and again... so I'll have to keep an eye out (post-Challenge).... But if anyone with a good one is thinking of selling it on at some point this year, let me know.

Hatch or estate. Colour not important. Condition and reliability is. :)

I have been in contact with a guy in Ireland who knows of one for sale soon. Its a rather immaculate 16 TGS Auto with low miles. I can discuss this with him if your interested. Only problem is you would have to take a flight to Ireland.

All I know is its grey, has a CCC tax disk holder, and no rust in the usual places as far as I can see.

I'll check with Liz. We have no funds for another car just yet- having acquired the Fiesta for Amy, and Liz is still p***ed at me selling the Xantia (it was her car! lol)... could be I need to consider buying a NEW car for her on contract? Well, it could happen if plans come to fruition...

I know the car that I should have kept; that 30000 mile TGS auto with dealer-fitted PAS. That was a beauty. Thing is, I know Liz prefers the TZD/GTi seats/interior so even that wouldn't do... Ideally: a TZi auto or GTi auto hatch is my guess.

Ah well, there's no real rush.

What are my chance,s

Post by bx petrol auto saloon »

Dear Phil.
The first hurdle you may need to overcome Phil, is with the BX. How
much she prefers the hydropnuematic suspension :?: is it alot or is she
not really bothered, like my wife  Shari has her new Astra 1.4 SXi
in light metallic blue, it has front and rear parking sensors, steering
wheel audio controls, air-con, traction control, multi-function trip comp-
uter, funky interior for an Astra and electrically operated handbrake
button, all of these things likes alot :) The 17" alloys, cruise control, the
fact that it has road springs, she is not bothered about any of those
things :!: Me I can feel every bump
Another thing too is my next door neighbour bought a flash P*****t
2 seater sports car brand new, he is now part chopping it in for an 02
4x4 pick-up. He is distraught at having lost 9k in just one year, it has
only done 4,000 miles in it :(
If I was you Phil, I wouldn,t buy a new car ever, get an ex demo
model, makes more sense to me Phil and you can still get a good credit
deal these days too.
Be interested to now your opinion Phil, I hope this helps.

First, Vince, thanks for the insight.
Secondly Liz (as some on here will know) actually likes the BX. She's been driving hydropneumatic Citroens for a fair amount of time now... But as I mentioned she's a fan of automatics, the plusher (and better in our opinion) seats you'll find in up-spec BXs such as the GTi, and electric toys like all-round electric windows, remote central locking etc.

I was only kidding about the DS3 - I will probably get one in the coming years, and, as you say I'd never buy one new, but a new-ish one, yes.

If I win the lottery I will still have at least one BX in my garage, to keep the DS5, DS4R and DS3 company!

Dear Phil.
I think you will have, hopefully, quite a good chance of one coming
available fairly soon Phil. They appear to be a bit like buses, never see
one for ages, and then three come along together  :)
I will try to have a look as I am out and about  But there are
some parts of Kent I won,t go to
I must admit BX auto is a lovely very smooth drive, unlike the CX
which had an auto box too, it was very very whiney down the road :!:
Took her shopping today with the sunroof open, window down etc. 8) :)
All The Best Phil. and take care.

Ugh. DS3. Bloody horrible things. Would you be interested if it didn't have some curvy chevrons on it?

Finding the right BX is just a timing thing. They do crop up, but not as often as you might like. I'd really quite like a 19 petrol auto. Or to at least try one...

Ah, nice BX. Wrong time being this side of the Challenge... I'd have to get the bodywork fixed up before 'presenting' it... I'll have a think.

DS3? Sorry, Ian, but I would still regard it favourably even if it had an Audi badge on it. But DS3 is old news... what I really want (after acquiring a couple of extra 'Classics') would be the DS5. Even more than a C6.
