hydraulic pressure regulator wanted

Post by peterwight »

The pressure regulator in the hydraulic system of my !6V is leaking. Repair of the leak is probably not possible. This is the green sphere that sits at the front of the engine. The workshop to which I normallly take it is, up to now at least, failing to find a replacement. It is the sort of thing that ought to be replaced by a new part, but I'd love to hear from you if you have one at all. (I believe they are the same for all models.) Thanks in advance. Peter

Nice work Mickey, but it sounds like the problem here is the regulator itself, to which the accumulator fits. There are signs of seepage around the regulator on mine too. My first plan (at some point!) is to check the unions for leaks.

Is it weaping around a core plug on the prssure regulator?

If it is, this is quite common.

Unless it is bad, I would just wipe it clean occasionally, and before each MOT test.

Pliades used to sell overhauled units, perhaps they still do.

I just externally cleaned mine with brake cleaner then applied polyeurothane sealant over the little core plugs, 2 years later still dry as a bone on both my cars. A 10 minute job BTW.

Thanks for advice so far

Post by peterwight »

Thanks for replies so far. Firstly I wish I'd thought to clean the accumulator before the MOT (as suggested); it's passed for the last few years with its leak. Also, I was wrong to think all models have same device: mine has power steering so I need the appropriate design, i.e. 3 tubes in (or is it out), anyway 3 not two. Yes, Pliades can supply but rather expensively. I haven't succumbed to the inevitability of paying them yet.

I bought one of these from Piades, many years ago.

After a year or two, it was also seeping slightly from the same place. But not enough to worry about.

A dab of polyurethane sealant, as suggested, is probably all that is required if your leak is similar.
