Ignore the add, looking at the wheel design any more importantly the tyres themselves they very much be metric ones which means tyres arent that cheap.

I've got two sets of them... but I'm sure mine are 14in - did they do them in 14in as well?

Yes Kev they do mate, thats what I have one the GT, the Mk1 cars came with them in metric size 170/65 R365 tyres (like these) and when they changed to the "Mk2" in July 86 they kept the same design but went over to imperial size the same as all the other models. Its quite confusing but if you put the wheels side by side they are some small differences. Either type of wheel will fit any BX but the tyres for the metric ones are a pain to get.

Thanks for that. I briefly wondered whether the ones on the white TZD (which came from a scrapper of unknown provenance) might be metric ones, because I've always had trouble with keeping a good seal on the tyres - plagued with slow leaks around the bead. Then I did the sum and realised the metric ones are actually larger so that wouldn't be the problem...

Lol im sure someone had tried to fit imperial tyres before and wondered why they wont go on!

I have a set of 4 Imperial 14" and 1 new one in a box (for the GT) and 4 Metric currently being re-done for the DTR but they arent looking too great as they are very badly corroded now all the paint is off.

What other tasteful options are there for alloys/trims for a Mk1?

I like the look of these alloys, but quite a few people seem to have them so something different would be ace for my GT!

I quite like no.7 (early GTi trims?) and no.14 (16v or dealer optional allys?). Picture shamelessly stolen from another thread on here

Up to you Tom, but as the GT is so rare now I personally would stick with either the correct trims (fitted) or some optional alloys.

Those early GTI/Pilot trims are cool though but rare as rocking horse poo and have a tendency to part company with their locating rings so finding some may prove hard.

The wheels in Pic 14 I think were for special edition models on the continent, ive never seen a UK one with them on. Bearing in mind that the rear arches on Mk1 were slimmer than a Mk2 so wider wheels or tyres could give you issues.

My thought's too. I don't particularly like the current trims, so I will investigate the other trims and alloy sizes.

Just as a though, what do people think about the chrome metal style trims that you get on some CX's and GS's, I seem to remember Graeme McNulty experimentally fitting some to his A reg red mk1 BX16.

the biggest advantage of you getting different rims is that you can store the origional rims/trims and keep them safe

Not my choice, looked totally out of charcter on a modernish car with no other chrome. The best wheels for a BX in my opinion are the ones Citroen fitted, on a 16v there are some nice subtle aftermarket ones but the speedlines do really suit it.

No.14 was a plastic trim only available on the 'Chamonix'; a 14RE limited edition only available in continental Europe.

Looks like an alloy wheel to me - caption says so too...

You're right looking at the pic - as it was for a 14 I assumed they were plastic.

Its really down to personnal choice but apart from speedlines theres only one or two alloys I would consider for my BX

Some of those aftermarket 'sooper dooper' alloys can look great on a 16 valve, otherwise its a bit like yer Mum in stockings and suspenders . . . just inappropriate and weird somehow? :D
