cylindrical thingy mounting bolt

Post by Mickey taker »

I could probably make something up but do's anyone have a spare bolt/fitting that holds the cylindrical thing the oil filler cap go's into that makes up the breather system on a petrol BX ?

It consists of a stud that screws into the block which has a metal plate welded to it that in turn is bonded to a rubber "cushion" the other side of this is a stud that has a nut on the end that holds the cylinder in place

Dear Mick.
I think you will find Mick, they are called " bobbins ", you should be
able to find some quiet readilly. If you were to go to an exhaust fitting
place, they should be able to match one up for you. although you may
end up having to fit a slightly bigger one, which wouldn,t be a bad thing,
as the original one like on my BX is also struggling to cope with all of the
weight of the oil filler pipe etc. etc. My car still has a piece of string,
trying to help it stay up, until I get round to doing the same for my BX
too Mick. These bobbins are usually 13 mm spanner size, but you can get
them in 10 mm size too
I hope this helps Mick.

I've got loads of bobbins of varying sizes, what size are the studs M6, M8?

EDIT: if they are 13mm spanner size as per Vince's post they will be M8, double check this Mick and i'll stick you one in the post.

thanks guys ,
Will check the size tomorrow Kevan,
I wonder why they chose this design of fitting in the fist place i.e. Why do's it have to have a flexible rubber piece ?
Surely a stud with a thick rubber washer either side of the housing would have been better or even a rubber insert in the hole in the housing.
I think it broke due to overtightening trying to make it stand upright and not crush the pipe underneath it
