Breaking My BX for spares

Post by ay0un4 »

Hi all,

Ok, so I offered up my BX on ebay, and nothing was taken (as expected!)

For details check out the ad -
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170834884213? ... 500wt_1375

Its sat in my garage now, and WILL be going asap to the scrap man. Sad thing to say but its doing my head in. I only have enough stamina with the thing to take valuable bis off it and offer to others in need of spare parts.
I know how annoying/awkward it can be to find spare bits, So basically you have a whole BX to get your hands on!!!

Let me know via email or phone what you require and if its not to much hassle I'll take it off the car and post for a reasonable price.

Its a pretty sweet car, that apart from a small scrape on the side and the head gone, its all in perfect working order! So message me to let me know, I suppose the main bit is the interior, and those lovely comfy seats. I'm tempted to keep them as sofas for my new house, but given the right price I'll sell.

Let me know ASAP and also if you could let others know it would be good.

Cheers, Andy

Andy I really feel for you mate,
I have been following the cars misadventures and cannot believe the head gasket went so quickly and that the previous owner had no inkling that there was a potential problem .
Have you been in touch with the guy who sold it to you ?
I know legally its sold as seen but christ on a bike she didntt last long.
The upside is it makes my meteor even rarer, Im beginning to think the dark grey ones are cursed as thats two heading for the scrapyard in as many months.
I know where theres a meteor engine or if you just wanted the head that could be available but its a long way North from Brighton

the head gasket on mine was done a year before I bought it and cost the previous owner about £1,300 including parts, engineering work and labour

Thanks for the reply, I know, it sucks that it happened so quickly, I was so excited to tour europe in it aswell, but doesn't look like thats happening anytime soon :(

I did email the chap (with no intentions but only to let him know what had happened) but he replied with nothing to express or any help acknowledged. I just let him know that his beloved car was now heading to the scrap yard..

It more hurt that I felt he did know something was going wrong with it, a fellow BX member phoned me (very nice chap) and he mentioned that there would have been a small hissing/whyning noise coming from the engine.. which there was but I was unaware of what this meant as the only other BX I've had is a 1.9 diesel (company owned)

Anyway, I'm done with old cars now (still got my beloved '89 mini) but I'm heading into the modern world now and getting a new Mini... hopefully that will go fine :)

Does the radio work? I need one for my TZD. If so, how much would you want for it?

Thanks

There wasn't a radio with it, was going to put my own in (even bought the cable that transfers to a aftermarket one)

Sorry

Watch out for gearbox issues on them new minis! My mums had to have hers replaced @ 30000 miles (it's an 02 plate), apparently it's a common fault.

That's only on the 5spd early models & probably most have had a replacement box, so i'd go for one with higher mileage to ensure the box has been changed rather than low mileage, still on original fragile box....

Hi all,

I've just spent a bit of time removing some bits and bobs from the BX. I removed the rear seats and you really get a sense of how good this BX is condition wise. The seats look like they have NEVER been sat on! Its crazy.. even the carpet is reusable... such a shame its going to get scraped but I suppose thats the way.

Anyway, I'm still taking orders for bits off the car. Let me know.

save the round thingy in front of the carb ( three pipes one to carb one from pump and return ) and its mounting studs , someone is sure to want one one day ,

In fact, if you have the storage space keep everything you can get off,
alternator , starter , coil , carb , ignition pack.

Sorry all for either no reply or late replays! I have been very busy with Photoshoots and put off worrying about the BX for a week or 2.

Next week I shall get back on it and get all the bits off people require.. Sorry for the lateness again,

Cheers andy

Hi Andy,
I am trying to locate a hazard light warning switch. Any chance you can help? MOT in two weeks and currently no reliable flashers!
