Aye, I`ll have some spare wheels with legal tyres to go straight on. A bit too far for me though, I`ll wait until something local to me crops up.

I'd have this one for sure, been in touch with seller and he say's the tyres are illegal. But worse, it's got the wrong oil in the suspension system :o :o

I dont fancy trying to get it 150 miles home without a trailer, he says offically it's taxed untill the end of Feb but the disc is at Swansea.

That`s quite a trek Ken, would it drive back with legal tyres and the `right` fluid in it or would it need flushing out first?

Don't know. He says it would get me home but I'm worried about the fluid, we've no idea how long it's been in and how much damage it's done.

All I know is he's surrended the Tax so he wasn't prepared to use it himself. But that could've been down to the tyres. :?

Then I refer you to 'From the ridiculous to the sublime' (General chat) - I list amongst my automotive ambitions an XM. But am I brave enough?!!

Go for it. I'd stick to a diesel though,

I've had a petrol auto one but all those I've seen in recent years have been suffering froM HG failure or valve stem seal probs.

The biggest draw back I find with the XM is, theres none in the scrap yards, having said that there's not many BXs either. Although we did find one on saturday morning and liberated it's LHM pump for a tenner :D

A long while ago I ran my GSA for a short time with 20W 50 engine oil in the hydraulic system... when it proved to be too expensive to continue topping it up with LHM it was pissing it out so fast :x As you can imagine, the oil didn't stay in there very long. (rear cylinder and rear h/c seal failure). Yes for a while my GSA changed all of it's bodily fluids with alarming regularity. At least the oil and LHM was always, always fresh...

Now it is completely oil-tight :D

If this oil in the LHM tank is regular engine oil, then not too much of a prob. At least it's not got water in there...

Engine oil in the LHM is OK as a get-you-home stand by. It will need to be cleaned out but then we all would be changing the LHM on a newly acquired car wouldn't we
