Oh dear, that doesn't look good

As long as it all gets cut out then the repair will last the lifetime of the car.

I think the car is out of guarantee now

My wife wants to keep it as we don't want to get a computer controlled thingy

Very wise, too many computer controlled thingys around these days. I like to do the controlling myself (but I will make an exception for my automatic gear box, not that it has any computing in it).

all mended now.

I've been told that a luvverly job was done on it before being Shutz-ed

When asked about the cost, no one would give me an answer, so I said please sort it out and I'll ring tomorrow ( Thursday ) .

Into the car and drove off
