B*U*M*S B*U*M*S and B*U*M*S

Post by citronut »

yesterday eve we were on our way home from my workshop up Battle rd (view map in link )

http://tinyurl.com/cbjk9c3" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

a late silver Astra had been up my back bumper for a couple of minutes so i was driving at a reduced speed, as we got to the Battle rd junction with Old Harrow rd the Astra stopped to turn right into Old Harrow rd, i did not notice if his O/S indicator was on,

at the same time as he started to cross the white line a large motor bike decided to over take him and was hit by the Astra,
the bike rider went flying and the bike continued on its own up the road then veered into the O/S/R door and sill of my BX TZD which i have only just put on the road at the beginning of may,
it stoved the door and the sill right in

my wife back, shoulder and her right knee which she had a partial replacement the beginning of February were hurting, so she was taken up to A&E in an ambulance,

so guess what we were doing for the next 4.5 hours
( waiting in an A&E bay to be seen by the doctor  )

this BX was quite straight and tidy pre accident,

also the Police un/marked traffic car that turned up had with her a television camera man filming the scene,

we will be on Police camera action next

ps.
the traffic WPC was saying the Astra driver did not have to be indicating right before his maneuver, i think this is utter rubbish,

not very happy
malcolm

I think I would have used a far more profane title than yours.

Most important thing is your wife OK? Second, how about the motorcyclist?

Really hope you manage to get the insurance to sort it all out without too much hassle.

Damn damn damn.. and etc of course.

Firstly hope you wife is ok Malcolm (and you of course - you haven't mentioned if you had any injuries).

Second I hope the motorcyclist come out of it ok - and presumably will have learnt something as well.

And that BX :( that's been quite a while waiting to be put back on the road hasn't it - and after all that time this happens - despite it 'just being metal at the end of the day' that must be extremely disappointing - very sorry to hear that.
the traffic WPC was saying the Astra driver did not have to be indicating right before his maneuver, i think this is utter rubbish,
Complete unhelpful nonsense.

Despite being a law abiding citizen - and therefore theoretically at least in support of the police, I'm finding more and more that they are becoming relatively useless.

In our area the Chief Constable wants to privatise some police work and has met with opposition (gosh - there's a surprise) on the grounds that the police are good at some things and not so good at others. FWIW my opinion is that we pay these people to do a job - if they are not particularly good at some aspects of the job then we should find people who ARE - and not put up with the kind of nonsence that I'm seeing more of.

A motto would be good - 'Protect and Serve' would be good even though it's a copy from the US - it would remind us - and the police as to what they should be doing.

Take care,
Brian.

That's a pain. Hope the car can be sorted. Door and sill isn't the end of the world, though I forsee a lengthy and painful battle with insurance companies ahead. I guess as it was the motorbike that hit you that you need to claim against the poor motorcyclist. If his insurance want to claim against the Astra, then that's their call. Or it might just be less hassle to find a door and a sill yourself...

Glad you are ok & hope wifey is ok as well, must have been quite a shock to have that happen. Bike riders fault, you should never overtake a vehicle when opposite or near to a junction, this is basic stuff :x as guess what happens regardless of whether anyone is indicating or not :!: :!:

Sorry to hear of your accident/woes Malcolm but as already stated /\ the main thing is no one got injured badly,
you can hopefully get the damaged to vehicles repaired (check out your Wanted post for a Red door, I may have found something hopefully)

I totally agree with you Matt, especially when I managed to get a better appreciation of the junction, as Malcolm's link wasn't too good !

So I thought I may as well link the exact STREET-VIEW since I went to bother to look it up and so other folk get a better picture too !

:)
