Anyone got an iInteresting classic car for hire in Cambs?

Post by KevR »

Odd request, but does anyone have, or know of, an interesting classic car in Cambridgeshire which might be available for a half day hire or (whether formal or paid for in food and booze) for use to transport a bride to her wedding reception?
My sister's getting married in early august and it would be nice to find a suitable carriage for her! Thing is, the wedding and reception are being held at her house, which is out in the Fens down a seriously bumpy lane, so it'd need to be something with ground clearance and decent suspension, so I was thinking maybe a DS or something (or a really nice S1 Land Rover!). All leads gratefully considered.

No, not on the road yet. I was given the remains by a breaker - missing complete front end and most of the bodywork, missing top end of engine and bottom end wrecked (usual problem, damaged end of the crank and cases when it was crashed).
So far I've fitted RF900 forks, wheels and brakes, and I've got a 1200 Bandit engine to go in. Unfortunately the Bandit motor's gearbox is missing, so I've got a seized motor with good gearbox and I need to make one good engine from the two. Then I've got some Skidmarx replica bodyworkand a full Motad system to go on. I'm just finishing up the last details of my special-framed ZX-6R, then hopefully I can get on with it! Will dig out a pic or two when I get the chance.

Given the proliferation of classic/Landy magazines based in Cambs, I would have thought a nice motor wouldn't be too tricky to find. Neil Campbell on Practical Classics has got a beige Montego. Now that's a way to arrive in style! Every bride's dream?

Last wedding I went to featured a Series II Landy as the wedding car. I was well chuffed! Beats a white Roller any day.

Aren't the Ruggs out that way? They must have all manner of extremely well presented cars, including the much photographed Rolls that always pops up in Citroen Ebay ads..
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Patrick and son Franklin. They own the delicious, low-mileage Mk1 GT BX.

Maybe you can have this one once it's finished! I'm doing it for a magazine project and I'll need to flog it once it's done to finance the next one!
