Steering wheel
I've been thinking of replacing the standard BX steering wheel(which, to be honest is a bit nasty) with a Moto Lita leather one. Already acquired a boss kit, so the question is, do I go for a standard sized wheel or slightly smaller. I have chosen a style I like, three spoked, dished, with black spokes and black leather. Any thoughts?

Re: Steering wheel
Whats wrong with the original steering wheel? Not nasty at all but typically BX? At least the chevrons follow the direction which you are going. Nowt else does this. Ide leave well alone.

Re: Steering wheel
I'd go smaller, simply on the basis of when I drove Matt H's valver, I liked the way it went round corners. I can't pinpoint that feeling to the (smaller) steering wheel he's got, but I think that was part of the reason.
As for originality - we're all different, and a steering wheel is an easily reversible mod. Personally I'm not a fan of the single spoked BX wheel, as I have nowhere to rest my thumbs. Others may really like it!

Re: Steering wheel
Marks valver has the 3 spoke type as fitted to lots of other late cars, personally I like the original wheel too, especially the single spoke wheel as it add to the BX individuality, but think a leather bound one would be a nice touch...

Re: Steering wheel
Mine has the 3 spoke wheel now, as despite preferring the looks of the single spoke one I found that on long journeys my hands would start aching after several hours. Wonder if the BX Buffalo had a leather bound wheel?

For the rest of the pics of this car, look here. It was an ex Citroen dealer's car spotted for sale in Alsace about eight years ago and purchased. Now scrapped though the interior lives on..

Re: Steering wheel
That buffalo wheel looks very wrong! Must be said I much prefer the Mk1 single spoke wheel to the 'chunky' later one.
A slightly smaller wheel might start obscuring the dials. It's a a question of preference though. I've no problem with modifications. After all, not every single BX wore headlamp protectors back in the day!

I'd like the leather ZX wheel. But there are no ZX's in Australia to nick one off.

Re: Steering wheel
IIRC my bx has a momo Course wheel, which was an option in the accessorie catalogue.
I can't remember the size of it, but I find it more suitable for the 16v and it's smaller size gives more room for my knees.

Re: Steering wheel
Thought about one of these . . .

? If you're going to drive a car that goes round corners like a tea clipper in a gail - why not celebrate it!?
I like the original the best - but if you swap it you can easily put it back if you want to.

Re: Steering wheel
I'm happy with the original - except that it's quite worn - so if anyone has a spare in tip-top condition I'd be interested.

Re: Steering wheel
I've had a few different wheels in mine over the years, from an early AX GT wheel, ZX Volcane wheel and now the TVR wheel in the Valver. The AX one is probably my overall favourite, because it doesn't look out of place, but the much smaller and thicker 'Personal' TVR one actually massively improves the driving position for me...
