Rear light for estate?

Post by Ant »

Hi,
I've just registered on the site at Remy (very helpful at Medway Citroen) suggestion. I've been blessed with a TZD estate bought three years ago (96k miles) which has barely put a tyre wrong 40k later.

Then last night, during the 20 minutes while I was chatting in a mate's house at the top of the hill, a cotswold stone wall apparently crept up the hill, subdued the car by bashing the rear offside/drivers light pod and then dragged the whole car down to the bottom. I was fortunate to return to the scene and flee before the wall had its wicked way any further.

I don't know if I have the guts to continue to drive past miles of cotswold walls who must be just licking their lips when they see the state of the car. Does anyone have urgent access to a spare lens/assembly before they finally close in?

Thanks for the welcome!
The wall was so sneaky I didn't even see it move.
Believe it or not the only damage is to the indicator part of the lens and module and the plastic tab holding the bumper trin strip. The hand brake tried its best but just wasn't pumped enough and the bumper just popped out of its fixing.
The problem is that a flashing white light will attract a flashing blue light!

as a temporary fix you can buy tinted coloured lamp repair tape from the likes of Halfrauds,

also i would suggest with the car on level ground, engine running, hand brake off, press hard on the brake pedal 3 or 4 times, but dont stamp on the pedal just press very hard,

this will adjust the hand brake mechanism in the front calipers, as long as the levers on the calipers are going fully off with the hand brake released,

thought you would like this ](*,) ](*,)

another good reason to always leave the car in gear when parked!
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

or just make sure you calipers have adjusted up properly every opportunity you can,
like on a garage forecourt before/after putting fuel in,

these adjusters very seldom work in normal use as they are supposed to,

so if they havent adjusted them self's it wont make any difference how far or hard you pull the lever up in the car (feet on dash comes to mind    )

they realy do need help in adjusting as above on a regular bases

Or short term get an amber indicator bulb - available everywhere.

Hi,
good tip about an amber bulb - I had heard a rather odd sounding concern that some amber bulb base terminals might not line up in a standard fashion. Assuming I find one which definately lines up I'll keep it as an onboard spare because it looks like when the estate's rear bumper is compressed at the corners it wil probably bulge upwards with predictable results to the light assemblies specailly the indicator section!

no good Brian
as the Amber bulbs have off set locating prongs, not directly opposite each other,

My Mk2 estate has a tape-repair to the indicator on one side. I've no idea how long it's been like that but that's how it was when I bought it in 2009!

You can buy them with offset or straight pins if required.

Indeed you can. My 2CV has 'straight' pins for its amber bulbs as I've fitted clear lenses. Slightly harder to track down but they are out there.
