I`m not sure what you`re saying there Ken but is it fair to say you don`t like them? I`ve just spotted the `minor rust` in the inner rear arch btw  .

Tim, you just DON'T wash a CX, in fact you try to keep it as far from water as possible.

It's not that I dont like them, I really think the CX is one of the most beautifull cars ever designed, absolute classic. Much nicer looking than the DS.

There I've said it now, I'll probably get shot with 5h1t by the purists for saying it.

I agree Ken, I think the CX is one of the most beautiful looking cars ever created. The DS is funky and wierd, but difficult to call pretty.

If I could afford to pay £3-5000 on a restoration project - a CX would be my choice. Absolutely lovely.

This one could be made to look good but it's probably too far gone to be worth it.

BTW does anybody remember a French film 'Betty Blue' (as it was called for the UK release). Apart from being a stunning film, there's a DS getting vandalised (not nice) and a CX turbo in a lovely red (nice) that's a real head-turner. Watch the film and don't worry - there's not much sex in it ( )...

I also LOVE the look of the CX, especially a Mk1.

A DS doesn't really move me in the same way it does other Citroenists. I'm more of a potential CX owner than I am a D owner.

But bloody hell, don't they rust...

I adore CX's, I've owned about 12 at the last count. Probably the best car citroen ever made (IMHO and close cos the A-series are pretty damn good too)

This one is a shed, if he cant be bothered to clean it out to try and sell it he desreves not too and i cant believe that he is still driving it around with dodgy rear arm bearings and holes that big in the car.

I made a mistake early in my CX owning career (about 1998-2000) and owned a totally lovely 1985 Series2 Gti Turbo 1 car, its spoilt me silly and virtually nothing has ever lived up to it.

Drive one once before you die, and whats more drive it hard, you will be converted.

I agree the CX is alovely car, but its not a home mechanics ideal choice!,

I remember MANY years ago at a caravan park in Derby there was a CX left abandoned, I think it was a T reg and a 2400 Pallas but I may be wrong it, was a dark red and had wolfrace chrome mag wheels. I played in for hours, pretending to drive, sadly so did other kids and they wrecked it!

It was towed away to a house about 15 miles away where the engine was removed, I rememvbr seeing it with no bonnet etc on the way to the caravan park which we visited regularly, our little 4 berth being towed easily by my dads 1984 19RD! Oh happy days!

Why not? The Hydraulics are no more complex than a BX with PAS, and the engines are actually rather nice to work on (pushrods rather than OHC for the majority of them).

The only real problem with them is the galloping rot. I'm still welding my MK1 TRD turbo like an idiot, and as soon as it's structurally sound, it's going to get the sills and floor zinc-sprayed and waxoyled to within an inch of it's life!

Spectacular car to drive though.

I went to the CCC CX Rally in Little Horwood last year, so I have lots of gorgeous pics on my computer at home.

I once took my friend's CX Mk1 GTi to an indicated 110 MPH on the motorway. A cracking drive... and you've just got to love that gorgeous instrument panel... Sadly that car was crushed IN-TOTO by its new owner, who'd agreed to buy it off my mate at a rally, after looking over it and driving it around, for £100ish to do up as a wedding car, then later complained it needed too much doing to it, and that we'd sold him a lemon, and accused me of twonking it down the motorway when we passed him on the way back from the rally. When actually I was following my mate at the time who was driving a GSA C-matic, so we can't have been doing more than 70-80.

And consider the fact that we'd later driven the car down to him near the South East coast. And consider that my mate had only had in mind a price of £50, but this guy, after looking over it, actually offered more for it.

Arsehole  We would have had it back off him if we'd realised it had sat abandoned, almost mint interior and all, and that he'd had enough of it and wanted rid. Never forgiven him for that. I mean, it had a slipping clutch and had rusty longerons and maybe a tiny bit frilly round the edges. But bloody hell, he didn't even phone to ask if we wanted it back. And we would have bloody gone and collected it and all, after having delivered it to him on a plate...

Grr.

CX's suffered that 'cheap banger' tag that people give to cars when they are old and not yet 'classic' many were killed off this way and its now that good ones are scarce that prices have gone silly for really good ones. Cheap good ones can still be had but you will find that making it excellent will be what costs.

I sold a Series 1 Prestige a few months back for 250 quid and it was really very solid and tidy, just needed a few silly jobs doing but without test it was next to worthless.
