Nearly new spheres - result!

Post by KevR »

Went to a boot sale here in France on saturday, and spotted one guy selling from a black BX Image TD estate, absolutely immaculate despite over 400,000km on the clock, so got chatting. When I said I had two TZD estates he said, 'Oh, you'll be wanting to buy these then,' rummaged under his stall and pulled out a Citroen-marked box containing a full set of five spheres. It's not unusual to find secondhand spheres for sale but of course normally I'm not interested as they'll have only been changed because they were knackered.
Not so in this case. Turns out he's a former Cit dealer mechanic, had two estates as well, and had changed both sets of spheres a few months back (the bill was dated March). Genuine Citroen spheres - new type with metallic grey painted finish - and frighteningly expensive. Then someone in a lorry wrote off the second estate so he'd retrieved the new bits before it went to the scrapper. French insurance payouts take into account recent money spent on the car, so he'd got most of the outlay back from the insurance, and flogged me the full set for 50 euros. 8)
