Dont suppose anyone has a shiny new "oil back harness" or for those not working at Citroen, an octups they would part with for cash?

The 16V's is dead, and spilt in such a place that I cant even bodge it. It's up for Mot in 2 weeks and the local stealer is not confident about sourcing one, even though I gave them the part number nd told them where they were made.

I'm so sodding sick of that car I'm tempted to scrap it and save the ongoing headaches frankly..

You could try Tonkin Citroen on 01726 850241. They had several in stock when i got mine a couple of months ago. They'll either post it or i can pick it up tuesday and post it as i'm on the road tomorrow.

I know you know anyway, but there's various p/n's based on RP but i've yet to find any actual physical differences in the octopii. An ebay "ended items" search will show up various ones they were previously selling.

AFAIK ALL octopii were exactley the same on all Mk2 cars, I've never seen any difference at all on any of the ones I've replaced, and it's been many...

Nope, you're right, they're too old to show up. I bought mine in April.

They had several with different p/n's. Although i agree i've never seen a difference!

i think the main difference was power or non power steering

pretty sure only the "small" octopus was different on PAS and NON PAS cars, I've only ever done one "big" octopus on a non PAS car, but I'm sure it was exactly the same as the PAS car. Since the steering return doesn't flow through the octopus at all I cant see why it would be different between the 2.

There are quite a few different part nos for the same things on BXs,at least partly because they moved from one system of part nos (usually found on older packaging with blue Cit logos) to a newer system (usually on packaging with red logos). The older system had the benefit that you could tell at a glance from the number what family of vehicles the original part was for. Unfortunately a lot of the older part numbers seem to have been 'lost' in the system so they're hard to cross-reference - hence the strut rebuild kits I found on the shelf having a part number no one seems to have a record of!

I increasingly think stealers just aren't interested, but I believe you are correct about the part number modernisation.
The local stealer here offered me a test drive in a new C5. Which I've already driven and dont want, what I'd like is a part for my BX, but since the monkey behind the counter didn't know what a BX was (I shit thee not) and literally couldn't be arsed to tap the current part number I gave him into his computer it doesn't really bode well, that said, the main stealer in Cornwall was a good deal more helpful.. still no joy at present though.

I'm sorry,, but after my previous post regarding a viable octopus alternative, I am surprised that it still presents an issue..

My post describing a progressive octopus bypass was largely ignored, which I put down to the purists not wanting an unoriginal alternative, but the OP of this thread was proposing the scrapping of their car for sake of the octopus...

FWIW I'm glad that OPer found their part, but that was down to luck and the kindness of Jay...

We may not have the volume of BXs here, but their originality will in most, if not all cases, surpass your northern offerings..so yeah what I'm trying to say is don't dismiss us please..

I think you will find the OP of this thread was sounding off about the trials of this particular car and not planning to scrap it simply because of the octupus, I also think you will find he is very able and capable of making his own oil back harness if he chose to do so and possably get round any other issues of obsolete parts on his BX.
