I've assumed two different issues; cold start wax stat and leaky boost pipe, but don't know my way round them all that well. Anyone care to educate me?

Lucas diesel pump queries
Colleague at work has a 97 306 1.9TD with a Lucas pump. It's fast idling at about 1100rpm and smokes under load at low revs, though it clears at the higher revs.

Re: Lucas diesel pump queries
I'm no expert on them, but the coldstart/fast idle device is pretty simple to set up - even Haynes manages to describe it ok I think! Just don't lose the spring that's supposed to be under the rubber bellows (bellows was persished on mine and spring disappeared never to be seen again...).
The cold start and the anti-stall device (I think) both pivot on the same shaft, and the pivot has a tendency to stick, so instead of the two levers moving independently, they move together, which can cause low speed running problems. A bit of WD40 and some jiggling usually frees them off.

Re: Lucas diesel pump queries
as above apart from that W stuff as it is really a moisture displacent not a lubricant,
also clean the contacts by the bellows as they supply an earth to the pump advance servo
regards malcolm

Re: Lucas diesel pump queries
True - but it does work to free stuff up as it's thin enough to get quickly where it's needed. 3in1 is probably better for the job though.citronut wrote:as above apart from that W stuff as it is really a moisture displacent not a lubricant,
