1991 gti
Re: 1991 gti
IIRC it's the same one that keeps re-appearing on carandclassic, does look a lovely car, can't understand why it hasn't been snapped up.

Re: 1991 gti
I like 8vs - if it had an auto box even better - no such thing as 'too bonkers' IMHO. I know people prefer 16v or diesels but that really is a lovely car - those that have been and had a look have said how nice it is and it's not as if the vendor is asking an arm and a leg. Maybe the car just hasn't seen an owner it likes the look of yet - BXs do that yer know!

Re: 1991 gti
I prefer my valver over the 8V GTi auto, BUT, the auto is still a very very lovely thing to drive, and I prefer auto's on the whole, I'm too old and lazy for all that stick stiring nonsense!
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!
Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Re: 1991 gti
Without wishing to spark a debate why is this? Yes 16v's are faster and diesels more economical. I once borrowed a 16V and whilst it was fast and fun I was glad to get back into my GTi auto for a motorway run as the 16v was just not as relaxing to drive and seemed to rev about 500rpm faster for the same speed i.e. it did my ears in!Tim Leech wrote:Easy its a non 16v petrol. Sadly
Unfortunately I've never driven a manual GTi as a comparison between the two.

Re: 1991 gti
I guess its what people "perceive" to be the best one, i own a Rover Sd1, when people ask me if its a Vitesse and I tell them no (its a much rarer model without troublesome EFI) their faces drops, same as a Sierra, it need to be a "cossie" or a dolomite has to be a sprint or noone cares.
Shame but thats peoples opinions.

Yes the top spec cars seem to survive better look at all the Pallas spec Ds or Gs for example.Tim Leech wrote:I guess its what people "perceive" to be the best one, i own a Rover Sd1, when people ask me if its a Vitesse and I tell them no (its a much rarer model without troublesome EFI) their faces drops, same as a Sierra, it need to be a "cossie" or a dolomite has to be a sprint or noone cares.

Re: 1991 gti
According to How Many Left None
Except for the 47 RE's (and around 5 or those are actually TGE's), there are 10 or less of each variant currently on the road!
I can't comment on the early suitcase models, but the TU engined cars are seriously underrated, and if I still had it I would have happily pitched my old 14TGE against the valvers and oil burners on the Challenge this year.
