Door pins and a filler neck nozzle

Post by Kitch »

Where do we go for door hinge pins these days? Stealer? Or some specialist?

Also.....the nozzle behind the filler flap on the top of the filler neck on G-SEG is no longer a nozzle. It's now a piece of ornamental rust on the floor. New neck time, or can I just change the nozzle? Let me know what you got!

Ah they're just standard roll pins I think we've got a box of them here somewhere. Will look!

Filler nozzle is the one I've worrying about :(

Anyone know how similar a diesel estate nozzle would be? As Mat mentioned on FB, mine has become a breaker.

Where has your filler neck gone Hitch, I think U may have a similar problem with mine the three screws under the flap that hold. The neck have come loose and won't retighten, the top edge of the neck seems to be coming away from the neck itself

There are 2 types of filler neck. One is fitted to the cars with the extra tank inside the o/s rear wing (16V/GTi/TZD etc). The second is for the cars without the extra tank.

Splitting the bayonet fron the plastic to swap between the two is "almost" impossible without it bending/crumbling.

Is it an option to swap the tank to suit whichever neck you can find?

Ah. My TGD doesn't have the extra tank.

Mickey - I used some slightly thicker screws on the Green Tiger as the filler was loose. Did the job an absolute treat!

On my old Gti the filler neck metal surround started to crumble, the garage used some black mastic stuff to keep it all held together, it soldiered on for quite a while like that & as far as i'm aware is still working fine. But ideally, a replacement is your best bet, Paul296, can you contact Shaun to see if he can extract one from your stash of breakers?

The main fuel tanks are the same. But, to remove the extra tank would mean replacing it with the long rubber pipework so not really worthwhile imo.

The neck for the "lesser" models is about 10" long with the breather right near the top whereas the one Kitch wants is only around 4" long and at a much sharper angle to meet the close-coupled extra tank.

From my recollection of the two i'm pretty sure you wouldn't be able to cut the longer one down as it would nowhere near line up due to the angle and "throw".

If someone could successfully seperate a bayonet from a neck (which are all the same) then Rich can just mastic it onto his.

i would stick a piece of plastic over your hole to stop water ingress,

matbe stick it across the top edge with gaffer tape to divert water away
