That does come across as a little harsh. I think we should cut the guy a little bit of slack - we don't want to alienate people who have just joined.

Junkman, the For Sale/Wanted section is for members who are selling cars/parts themselves, and eBay finds (that you have no personal connection with) tend to be posted in the Spotted section. Not that we're especially strict about staying on topic, as you may have noticed!

Slight contradiction there; Richard has used smilies so he is not being unfriendly surely? I'm sure Richard didn't mean any offence he was just pointing out that there is already a thread going on this in an atempt to help keep the forum tidy and readable.

Perhaps it's just me (I know for a fact it isn't) but that roll-eye smiley denotes a smug, know-it-all sarcasm that is not friendly. It really wouldn't be too hard to say "Thanks for that but it's already been discussed in this thread. "

Only the person writing the post knows how it's intended, but my opinion is that it's very easy for the rolling eyes smiley to come across in a negative manner. That, coupled with other recent comments could be construed as offputting, even if intended in a helpful way.

I did not perceive it in a negative way, but a short explanation that I now found the only forum I ever joined where cars for sale are listed in the cars spotted section would have been nice. I hope I will remember this in future, however I have the funny feeling I won't.
Maybe I should therefore refrain from pointing out cars for sale altogether.

As for these smileys or emoticons or what they are called, I don't use them at all. Either you understand how I mean something, or you don't, the choice is yours.
