I remember those! I reckon this go in the back of a red GTi 8v if you like this sort of thing, but they quickly gained a Boy Racer image. Nothing screams this more than having 'Injection' or 'GT' emblazoned across the back window of your 1.3 Mk1 Escort or 1.0 Metro.

Good spot Tim. How quickly tat like this gets forgotten, then when it's all but disappeared it reappears in a flashback/backflash like this. My bidding finger is twitching! Take me back to the future.

I notice that he's got an 'Injection' one too - do you think the rear window could take two of them.. and he's got 'GT' as well. Three perhaps?

Last week my father-in-law gave me a job lot of 80s speedstripes. I can feel a 'look' coming on

I'm planning on recreating the BX accessory side stripes for Timex - the grading will be difficult, but if all else fails I may get them done in satin black to match the door tops and sills.

I love all that 80's styling stuff - in theory. Would I put one of those stickers on my car? Probably not - in practise 8).

I was going to get the meteor boot badge reproduced and enlarged to go along the bottom of the doors inspired by timex's door stripe

Not sure about the Meteor, but there were certainly some different model ones produced. There was a HUGE set of BX GT decals o Ebay a few weeks back, but only for one side unfortunately. The ones on Timex (which were on Tim's DTR before that) were part of a set that also included stripes across the back of the tailgate and the rear upper quarter panels.

They were called 'coachlines' in my day - but that's quite a while ago  back when the splitter had a proper name - the air dam... etc etc

If you want to find the 'colour opposite' to the colour of your car - in theory to provide the best contrast for coachlines, find an application on your computer that asks you to chose a colour and puts a colour choice box on the screen (this is an 'object' in geek-speak and the object is called 'color' - American spelling). Wiggle the cursor around until it's as close to the colour of your car as you can get it then note down the values for red (R), green (G), and blue (B) . (don't try to use the other figures - they are incorrect - a Microsoft cock-up that arrived with Win95 and was still wrong in Vista ! )

Get the figures for RGB and for each one subtract it from 255 giving you new figures for R G and B - and that colour is the colour opposite of your car's colour.

For example pure red has RGB values
R 255
G 0
B 0

Subtracting each from 255 gives the values
R 0
G 255
B 255

and those values represent the colour CYAN

Which can look fairly nasty - but it can be used as a starting point for a possibly better choice.

Or look up 'colour wheel' on Google - or if you're as fed up with Google as I am then look it up on http://search.yippy.com/
