Red, unfortunately, 1993, sunroof, 180,000km. UK reg but in BRittany - worth practically nothing as a UK reg car in France, so might be worth someone rescuing and taking back to UK?

Phil ( Chidders ) has christened this car 'red baron 2'. Would make a good Ecosse Challenge candidate.

Emailed the seller, got this reply:

"It's SORN.
Tyres are Ok legal but not new.
Hydraulic Ok but a leak on the steering.
Not used for 5 years so not ok to drive away
Interior good except for driver seat wich is badly worn.
We ve already an offer of 250 € and waiting for better one. "

If it's anything like my white TZD, which also hasn't been used for five years, it'll need a hell of a lot of small stuff to bring it back to lfe. They really don't like being left unsed for long periods in my experience.

Well, let's see...
When mine came off the road it was because the water pump packed up and the silencer fell off on the way back from the south of France. Otherwise it was in good all round condition, a reliable daily driver. I had the other estate ready to go so I put the white one on the back burner. It spent most of the next six years under cover under a tarpaulin in a barn.
In the process of putting it back on the road I've obviously ended up fixing some things that would have needed fixing anyway (wishbone bushes, for example), but also lots of stuff due to inactivity and damp that never gets heated up/dried off properly (we're close to the sea so the air's pretty salty as well). So I've had to deal with cracked and perished rubber boots/gaiters on driveshafts and ball joints but also in engine mounts, strut return pipes etc; handbrake cables seized/rusted; discs rusted away; grease in wheel bearings hardened off and bearings rusted; coolant hoses hardened/cracked; suspension/brake pipes corroded; general corrosion underneath; mouse nests everywhere; electrical connections corroded; radiator basically crumbling into dust; seat foam hardened/degraded (sounds like rustling paper when you sit on them!), and that's just the stuff that immediately springs to mind!
Now maybe (let's hope!) yours has been stored in a drier, better ventilated environment, but I still say it's better to keep them moving and keep them used! That's what I'll be doing from now on.

Mine has been out in the open on my drive, i had thought about a cover but concluded that longterm it might actually cause more damage by keeping moisture in & it never drying out at all. Mine has fired up this year & moved a couple of feet, but thats as far as it got, i was hoping to get it back on the road, but my friendly helper is v-busy, so trying to get some help is always difficult. I reckon next year though its deffo going to happen

My mate Tim and i bought a couple of n/a diesel Estates on ebay a little over 2 years ago and managed to make one good one out of the pair.It did however take a lot of fettling, still ongoing, as they had been standing for 4 years out in the open, one of which is now upside down in my yard.It took Tim quite a few months of hard work to get it to an MOT standard.

Time is a great killer of these motors if not used thats why my fleet is used weekly. Even having Sophie unused for a couple of months caused mould to grow on the steering wheel.
A motor thats been left unused outside for 5 years is going to be very hard work to be useable again.
Mind you, i recently sold my series MM Morris Minor that hadnt moved in the carport for 18 years and she hacnt rusted badly at all, buyer was impressed by this. Didnt use a cover or anything and it made good money, mainly because of its rarity and that it was made of much thicker metal than a BX so it survived its 64 years better.

I'll know how good mine is once i get it up onto a 4 post lift, then the tears might start, but then again i do know a few people who can weld The good news is that if she does become roadworthy, its low mileage & so has gone up in value since i bought her
