Wanted o/s wing mirror

Post by merlyn »

Does anyone have a wing mirror that would fit my car? I will call the garage tomorrow and they may just have one knocking about but just in case they don't I thought I'd better make enquiries on here.

Really not sure what happened, I was parked at the roadside (on the right side of the road) and as I pulled away I heard and felt a big clunk. When I stopped to see what it was (Nathan was sure we'd run over the cat!) I saw my shattered wing mirror lying in the middle of the left hand lane. How it got there I have no idea, unless someone had managed to break it off and put it on the road while I was parked. It was dark so I didn't notice it there and didn't notice that it was missing at first. As you can see from the pictures it has been severed off with some force. I know that I haven't hit it in the 5 months that I've owned the car and where it was parked no other car could have hit it.

Any ideas? Any spare wing mirrors?

Is your mirror electric or manual?

I was just about to ask would I be able to fit it myself easily but as you have offered Tim, it would be rude not to accept! You are correct that it is manual. If it is a job that a not-very-competent person could do though I am.prepared to get an eBay one and have a go myself. I need it doing pretty soon though, I'm struggling to park without it!!

Its not a difficult job, just have to remove the door card. However, you will need the correct tools, a phillips screwdriver wont do all the screws so maybe if Tim does it for you this time you will be able have a go next time, if there is one. Without the correct hex headed driver this can be a pain.
Mind you, on a MK 1 you dont even have to remove the door card its, easy peasy but for the problem of finding a MK 1 wing mirror!!

This alone can be a nightmare of a job for someone who has never removed a door card before

Well, suffice to say I havent removed a door card before and was wondering what my chances were of getting it off (and back on again) in one piece. I think it safest to take Tim up on his offer. I hope that there won't be another time but it does worry me that if it were done deliberately then it could happen again. I might just panic-buy wing mirrors for a bit!

As Andy has said it is very easy to do once you've done one so once you've watched Tim you will know for next time.

If you don't have one I can get an eBay one or see if our local garage have one. Let me know, I will pm my phone number.
