And I thought it was a fuel pump! I normally use one of these for the personal irrigation :D

On the subject of Ebay, I recently 'won' a Sony stereo system of 1985 vintage as pictured without the record player but a compatible CD player for €25. I collect a few pieces of mid-80s Sony Hi-Fi - probably another nostalgic reflex.
It arrived yesterday and was as described - mint - or at least it would have been before he/she sent it in its laughable packaging. It was in a thin cardboard box without any padding/ protection whatsoever.. no, I lie, there was a newspaper tucked down one side, still folded up and half an egg box on the other side. The CD player was on the bottom of the other separates which probably have a weight of at least 12kg and thus it was cactus : it looked as though it had been on ice since 1985 except for the huge buckle across the top that had crushed the drive mechanism.

I took the thing apart, hammered the metal cover back to shape with a wooden carpenters mallet, took the whole drive apart and using a scrapper Sony CD for reference and parts managed to repair it. Unbelievably the rest of it works and I'll be making a compilation cassette tonight for my friend to play in his recently restored MGB V8 with its original 70s radio/cassette! God, I love being stuck in the 80s! :D

Compilation cassettes rock! I just put a microphone next to the telly when TOTP is on and tell everyone in the room to be quiet. I love being stuck in the 70's (don't you think there's something a bit weird about that Jimmy Savile bloke though? )

The '80's rule ok!! I'm on the lookout for a Sony sports walkman. Had one of the yellow ones, but I'm on the lookout for the uber rare black one. Bought a mint Sony betacam earlier this year, complete with hard case. Commodore C64 is in loft and you can all keep your Xbox and wii's, the Atari 2600 rocks!! :-)

Those graphics are mind-blowing. It's like being on the centre court at Wimbledon!

I had forgotten what a palaver it is to set up cassette recorders - two cables in, two cables out, then the machine takes up the space of a microwave oven. All in the name of lo-fi while I stand there for the C90 minutes pushing play/record. It's like one of those historical re-creations!

Just to show I'm not completely stuck in the 80s, I was enjoying THIS yesterday. Though you might say they're stuck in the 60s!

On the R21 front, I removed the fuel pump, filter, holder and all piping, preparing for welding in that flammable zone. Then I poked around with a screwdriver where there appeared to be bubbling under the underseal on the sill in front of the rear wheel and a hole appeared. It was only the underseal that was maintaining the appearance of a sill! It's an area 20x20cms and, when I looked on the other side, it had already been repaired in the same area. Obviously one of those weak points which I know well on the BX but just learning about on the Nevada.
My feeling is that if this car hadn't been garaged in 2001 it would now be a Chinese cube along with all the rest of its brothers. There are very few survivors from the first series of these cars.
Luckily, I think I can deal with it as the rust is just starting its advance and hasn't developed full rot status yet and it's never been bodged. Will post some photos later for the rust hounds..

That's fighting talk Mr Focus! What's wrong with fibre-glass pads glued on with silicon then painted over with Dulux?
