MK1 tailgate strut clips
Does anyone have any of the early MK 1 tailgate strut clips? These are the pins that push through and attach the strut to the tailgate. Not the same as the Mk2 push on type.

aaah i remember the type
the pin is held in place with a square U shaped spring steel clip the slides into slots on the pin

I might be able to help - give me a couple of days. I just broke that 85 TRD but a lot of small bits got chucked all together in a bucket.

I was sure that the ones on the estate had the same pins,but having looked, they haven't. Pretty sure I've never broken a Mk1, but bloody sure I've got some of these pins/clips somewhere, so I wonder whether the changeover was later than jujst mk1/mk2 - I've definitely broken two early-ish Mk2s. If anyone can come up with dimensions and/or a pic of the pin itself, I'll have a rummage about.

My Mk1 estate had the normal kind of clips. Don't know if that represents a change across the range or whether the estate was always of the later style.

If I've got some, they're unlikely to be in a box of nothing but BX bits, so dimensions would help identify what I've got.

I looked for these clips and I think Kevan's right - they are the same for all models. I found some off a Mk.1 then I compared them with those of my 16v and they're the same. The pin goes through then they're secured with a metal clip.

they are the ones, not the same as a MK 2 at all.
Just let me know what you want for them, that would be fantastic, clips n all. If you have the struts too,that would be great, i think thats why the guy removed them, not working as they should. Ile pm you.

Mk 1 tailgate strut support pins are not the same as those on a MK 2. MK 2s just snap on or off, MK 1s dont so the 2nd piccy is the type i am after.
