For Sale - BX 17RD Early MK2 1986.

Post by Brian »

It is with much regret, I have to part with my BX.
I am listing on here to see if there is any interest.
I would like the car to go to someone who will keep it on the road.
I will keep the car on the road till the end of this year, then decide it's fate.
The local scrap merchant will pay £100 for the car.
The main reason for selling is the welding required, as I now do not have any co2, tried with cored flux wire but not happy with the result. so I am not longer up to the task.
I am looking for £200, another £25 for all the extra gauges, led's etc, and extra for road tax that is left.
If there is any interest I will upload some pictures.
Viewing MK45 area till Wed 28th Nov, then new year
Summary:-

CITROEN BX 17RD - EARLY MARK 2 - 1986

1769cc Colour cream.

Purchased 23rd May 1998 Mileage 168,969.
18th Nov 2012 Mileage 238,043.
MOT expires 24th Jan 2013
Road Tax expires 31st Aug 2013.
In the 14 years of ownership, this car has never let me down; it’s been so reliable.

General History etc
Servicing: Oil and filter every 5k miles. Timing belt every 25k
Camshaft oil seals replaced. Valve clearances re shimmed.
Last Cambelt Change 215,850 (22,193 miles ago).
Brake callipers front and rear striped cleaned greased and rebuilt.
New front and rear brake disks and pads.
Rear arm bearings replaced with facility to add oil/grease
Bosch pump, has been stripped cleaned re sealed.
Have run on 50% new veg oil in the summer.
This model is fitted with electric diesel heater.
Drop links replaced.
Front struts replaced and lubricated.
Grease nipple fitted to steering rack.
All rear HP pipes replaced by Pleiades, others replaced as required.
Leak back to front struts modified, now only requires tubing.
Speedo mileometer registers 100mile for every 1 mile travelled.
Trip mileometer reads true.
Classic insurance.
Flow & Return diesel pipes replaced.
Welding to cills, drivers side door hinge area, boot floor, behind rear bumper bottom of C posts & other small locations where required.
Power train all runs smooth with no problems.
Suspension fully functional.
No visible water, oil or LHM leaks
Upgraded interior, grey striped type, rear seats split type, door cards, rear sunblind, A B post and dash original.
Heater matrix replaced in the last year.
Low mileage diesel hydraulic pump fitted 3 months ago.
Radio cassette fitted.
All spheres replaced, tick time, varies between 43 and 51 seconds.
Leds fitted to front parking, rear number plate and high level brake lights.
Digital water temperature gauge (LM35 chip and multimeter) fitted
Digital Voltmeter fitted.

Bad points:
Windscreen has old small crack in outside layer top drivers side corner not noted on MOT
Another recent crack outside layer, bottom corner, drivers side just in side the swept area, most likely an MOT fail.
It would seem I can get this replaced through my insurance.
Cracks to plastic dash area.
Spit in door card material to passenger’s side, about 100mm long.
Front number plate cracked. (New front and back number plates included).
In the summer I always have make an inspection under side, this year have located an area of rust on the rear off side cill and also above, adjacent the fuel tank & rear sub frame.
I have made an attempt, but it will require the fuel tank at least dropping to get proper access.
Battery requires booster on very cold morning starts.
Tailgate struts, low pressure.
Internal ends of both wing mirrors broken off

Sounds like a well looked after example with the famous modifications! That's about as economical and reliable as BXing can be .Out of interest, what are you replacing it with Brian?

Hi Todd,

Yes it definately has been reliable and economical.

I do have a Tizzy D 1992, and if the worst comes, and I have to take to the crushers, I will remove / change all the parts that will be commom.

The replacement is a Peugeot 306 XRDT Sorry, but it is French.

Very much interested! I decided at the NEC that i'd really like a BX as a daily driver, and with a lack of affordable/suitable 14's around this looks very lovely.

I've got a new job that requires a 30 mile commute either way, so a diesel would be fab, and this would be nice and cheap on insurance.

So, how much tread is there on the tyres? How serious is the rust? Can you explain what all the extra dials etc do and how they work (do I see a Cb radio too)?

I've just noticed that you aren't available for viewing after 28/11, will the car itself be available after that time? Or is that crush-day?

this sounds like an awesome car. If i was nearer and had the space i'd have that.

Nice simple machine with the floaty ride, does 60mpg no matter what you do, and with no PAS it's just you, the green stuff and the diesel motor.

Am i doing a sales job or what.

Anyway, good buy i reckon!

If you've got 200 quid going spare and are in the market for a BX; BUY IT. The way things are going it might be your last opportunity to buy one for the price of a pint of beer, a packet of crisps and one other thing that costs about £196. :?

Just carried out a rough check, they are all legal and the depth varies between 2.5 to 3.9 mm.

How serious is the rust?
Definitely a MOT fail.
Rear end of cill, an easy repair.

Until access is available, by removing spare wheel carrier, rear exhaust section and fuel tank, at least, it's difficult to advise.
I will see if I can take a picture.

Can you explain what all the extra dials etc do and how they work.
The red led display indicates the battery voltage. It's powered by a 5volt regulator taken from the switched 12v supply Switch to the right of the display.

The multimeter indicates the water temperature in Celsius.
This is a LM35 chip that is glued to the cylinder head, and powered by a 9Volt PP3 battery "switched" that feeds a signal to the multimeter, which also uses a 9volt PP3 battery.

(do I see a Cb radio too)?
Not quite, amateur radio transceiver.
These will be removed including the aerials, before selling/disposal.

I've just noticed that you aren't available for viewing after 28/11, will the car itself be available after that time?
I will be using the car from 28/11 till the end of 2012, then the car will be available again.

Trust this answers you queries.
Cheers

I read the main reason for selling as you've basically run out of Co2 gas? :?

You want argonshield mix anyway, but why don't you just buy some more gas and finish it off?
