I've finally got this car back on the road now! Mot'd it yesterday and taxed it today, it still needs all the boot trim refitting and the outer kick panels on the bottom of the rear wheel arches.
Jobs still to do are:-
1. ABS fault, light comes on intermittently once the car is moving.
2. Still got a slight pull to the left, I was hoping it was a bit of rear wheel steer from the knackered radius arms but this is obviously not the case.
3. Slight oil leak from the back of the engine, it drips off the rear engine mounting.
4.Fit undertray, I'm fitting all my cars with undertrays, I've got one off a c4 which with a bit of trimming will fit well.
5. Engine surges and loses power, it's drawing air somewhere but not from the main metal pipe as it was replaced a year ago.
6. Replace nsr door, it's dented in, I was going to leave it but seeing as i've already gone much further than i intended with this car i might as well replace it.
That's about all i can think of for the moment but i'm sure something else will come to mind.

I've been a bit lazy with posts on repairs but i will try and post some pictures that my better half has taken along the way. I just need her to put them on photobucket for me, it's not my thing. I probably could do it if i tried but i just don't want to!

Why are you fitting undertrays Barry?

Most modern cars are fitted with undertrays, to keep noise down and improve aerodynamics. They also keep road muck off the engine and gearbox.

I've put all the trim back in now and given the inside a good clean, although not too clean as this is the dogs car. Once i've fixed the abs problem i'll reclaim my txd. The surging and losing power have now been fixed:- one of the non return valves in the primer bulb was faulty, it runs great now!
The next one in for repairs is the txd, whose problems include:-
snapped handbrake cable guide.
lumpy starting/blue smoke
creaking calipers
very slight gearbox noise
heavy clutch operation at the bottom of pedal travel
intermittent loss of power steering
rust treatment
mot
paint nsr quarter (previous poor repair to dent, not rust)
paint nsr door (rust on bottom edge because of poorly fitted doorskin)
glovebox hinges (my better half has managed to snap them)
fortunately there is no welding needed as i did it about a year ago.

And hide away leaks that are better found straight away!

Post up some piccies of your undertray's, i'd be interested if it reduced cabin noise & helped with aero so made the car more economical.

They don't reduce cabin noise, they are designed to lower outside engine noise to lower the general traffic noise in busy towns and cities. I've never noticed any difference with them on or off.

The undertray i've fitted to the 4x4 is i think off a fiat grand punto which fits quite well. I had to use a different one than i intend to fit to the others because the subframe is different. As regards cabin noise on the petrol 4x4 i'm not sure, but i'm sure with a diesel it must make a difference.
The txd passed its mot today, so one job off the list. The only thing i thought it might fail on was the intermittent power steering, but it intermittently worked for the test!

The power steering is now fixed! I replaced the hp pump with the one off my scrapper and the car is transformed, it goes up quicker in the morning too and i'm sure i'm imagining it but the suspension feels softer too!
On the downside the clutch has started slipping on the 4x4 so i will have to take it off the road until i've got the time and money to fix it.
