mot failure drivers seat
MOT failure on the tzd, most bits sorted easily, but a failure on the drivers seat due to the seat back being loose. have also noticed that the rake of the seat back dosent seem to come up anywhere near the upright position even with adjustment handle wound right forward, its either laid back or very laid back, also seems to be "twisted" leaning back more on the left when sitting, the seat base tilts ok, having never stripped a seat down is a viable repair possible or can i change the seat frame and fit my interior to it?

According to a chap I spoke to at the NEC who had run a fleet of eight BX taxis (BX16s including saloons and Estates) in period this was a common problem....

Re: mot failure drivers seat
Shouldn't be a problem - just an inconvenience. IIRC you'll need TORX drivers to remove the seat and then it's a case of stripping the cloth and padding off to reveal the frame part of which will need welding to repair it. And unless you have somewhere under cover to work on it you'll need a dry day so good luck with that.is a viable repair possible or can i change the seat frame and fit my interior to it?

Re: mot failure drivers seat
are the front seats the same? as i can source locally a good straight passenger seat which would yield a good frame, is it just a matter of refitting the upholstery and seatbelt fitments etc etc or not as easy as that? my second option is to source a complete replacement seat black bolsters grey zig zag pattern, monza i think, same as the tzd currently on ebay, which i would like to buy if it was nearer london.

Re: mot failure drivers seat
/\ I have a whole Monza interior for sale! Not the same pattern as TZD though. They are a very very dark blue (the actually look black and you have to look hard to see the blueness). This has a grey stripe (about 10mm width) running through it.
As well as being a more sporty/supportive seat, the drivers seat has adjustable bolster cushions (and they work)
I'm in S Wales.

That comment by Mothman is subject of a formal complaint to the moderator. The object was to advise that seatr failures are or were endemic and not to be caught out.
