Fan Control Module?
Does any one have one? My friend and fellow board member Bill Cameron runs a 19TGD estate and his has packed in.
Its the one that slots in the blower housing apparently?
I may have one but dont know what they look like.

Re: Fan Control Module?
Is that not the resistor pack that slots into the actual blower housing?

they can sometimes be resuscitated if you or he are good with a soldering iron,
dismantle clean all contact/connections, re/assemble

Re: Fan Control Module?
I always say this, but is he certain it has failed? There's very little on them to fail - if the actual transistor is OK (can be checked with the diode test function on a multimeter) then IF the module is the problem the most likely cause is corrosion where the transistor case is riveted to the heatsink. It relies on this contact for earthing so the rivets should be drilled out, mating surfaces cleaned and reassembled with a THIN smear of thermal transfer compound. It can be bolted or re-riveted together again.

Re: Fan Control Module?
It's the actual transistor that fails I believe. You'll struggle to get a new unit, but you can buy replacement transistors at pence and solder them in.

I got a brand new one from Euro Car Parts when I used to work there. Was £12 or so, could still have some left! (And pigs might still fly!)

Hmmm, anybody breaking a BX soon...?Tim Leech wrote:Thanks Kitch,

If he does replace it, I'd be interested in the old one to repair. I let someone have my last spare, so would be good to have another on the shelf ready to plug straight in. Or help someone else out in the future.

Re: Fan Control Module?
Well actually, yes I will have a spare, but I'm taking the A/C system out of the grey one so I'm not sure if I need it or if it's the same? I've still got the brand new one at home, so if I don't need this one it can be available.mat_fenwick wrote:Hmmm, anybody breaking a BX soon...?Tim Leech wrote:Thanks Kitch,

Re: Fan Control Module?
When I fitted the AC to mine, I kept the transistor module from my original single blower unit as the one from the donor car was not working. After a few months I replaced it as I had problems with the blower speed dropping off over time. Thinking that the transistors must be higher specced to control the current to two blower motors I fitted an uprated transistor to a spare module and fitted that and it was exactly the same - the fault turned out to be with the microswitch on AC cars which enables the full speed relay only when cold air is selected.
So in a nutshell, the standard module should work fine in an AC equipped car.
