not bx but pug 206 electrical demons

Post by rutter123 »

the wifes 53 plate 206 has got electrical demons, every time she unlocks the car with the fob the rear wiper comes on, and also i have replaced the o/s/r brake light bulb 3 times in 3 weeks they keep blowing have used 3 different make of bulb and the problem persists, the unit is dry and cant see any bare wires all looks ok, not that these are major issues, i have removed the rear wiper arm for now, more annoying any ideas as its beyond me.

From the age of the car, I suspect it may have a multiplex wiring system, which replaces the traditional loom with a series of processors connected with the minimum of wiring. These send signals to each other in order to make them operate the various electrical systems. If any of the connectors work loose or get corroded this can disrupt the signals, with some odd results somtimes.

I would check and clean all the connections you can find if I were you.

Check the earths at the rear of the car as well - can cause all sorts of strangeness and presumably the sidelights flash when she unlocks the car, in which case if there's a bad earth it could well trigger something odd with the wiper circuit.

For the wiper fault It's worth checking the wiring loom from the body to the tailgate ,as the wires can break and short inside the rubber conduit.
